  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - REDVOLT XL Module

This is Huge...

For some it could pass unnoticed, but options to power supply are amazing in our world... mostly the ones that allow for a hot swap , low weight, sexy designed accessory...

thanks again RED

I may be overlooking something obvious, but is there a cable that can run from the power output on this module to a REDmote mounted elsewhere (like on a V-mount on the side of the camera)?

When you use the module off the camera it acts as a stand alone 2 amp charger which is pretty quick. Not as fast as the Quad charger but pretty fast.

That's very cool!! :) And super useful so I don't have to travel with my quad charger everywhere. :) Can it also charge the smaller redvolts or just the XL?? Now that would be a great extra feature. And how about making a smaller "travel size" AC power adaptor as well? :)

I'm telling you.. as much as I love our modules that we have made in the past.. this one feels like the beggining of getting things just right.

Especially the switch plate is a great addition!
well... things often have the tendency to improve, the longer you work on and with them.

Now how do I justify moving from my dual to the XL? :)

No 2pin lemo to usb connector yet...

Hey Brent—can I add to the requests for weight specs for this module and the XL's?

Would really love to see exact specs on the Red store for all of the products, for things like weight & dimensions. It's a PITA to have to weigh & measure every little fricken thing when doing prep for travel shoots.

the Small REDVOLTS dont have the amps needed to run AUX devices. You should try one of these Bjorn.. it has never come off my camera after I put it on. Its nice to get almost an hour of battery with the XLs and they are just at the limit of Airline Safety carry-on.

Yes I think I will go for this, the built in charger is excellent, did not realise that feature was there at first, I thought that input was just a better/different placed power in.

So I want to stack this on the back of the Quad and +1 together with the side handle. Then power it all with 3 XL's and a volt that would give me a good 3 hours of juice. Then I would also have both 4 pin and 2 pin power outputs.

Thats to hard to resist so I will order this and 4 more XL's first thing monday. That would definitely put an end to my clients bitching about power options and keep things super modular.

Still a XXXL bat is on my wish list. Or actually, even better would be a version of the XL bat that can dock another XL bat on its back that way we could still fly with them, and again have more modular options...:drool5:

CF Module

CF Module

Speaking of modules, the new Arri Amira is using the new C-Fast cards, these new cards are 256Gb 600mps. Can the Red CF module use these cards???

No. Completely different interfaces. CFast is sata based and has different pins. More likely would be a redmag to CFast adapter, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Easy... ;)
- XLs run longer than two REDVOLTs
- internal charger
- no module adapter or +1 module needed
- smaller (without battery)

The dual will stay with me (as will the quad) and i'll probably leave the adapter on my camera to easily hotswap the power-modules after i run out of XLs.

Björn also talks about stacking this on top of a Quad (or Dual), which sounds great, but is this really supported? I'm asking because stacking Dual/Quad-modules didn't work so far.

I would love to see a pic of this configuration :)

I think the new module is great and I am getting one for my Scarlet. I wonder how much time will a single Redvolt XL would give a Scarlet Dragon (perhaps something similar to an Epic-X?)

I don´t know what will happen with the Redvolts now. They seem less of an alternative as new options surface. Maybe there will be newer versions coming, but for now I am glad to see that there are smaller options than V-mount batteries. I wonder how much weight the Redvolt XL module and a redvolt XL will add.

Probably not. Simply connecting swappable batteries in parallel is not something you can really do. If they're at different voltages, power will flow unrestricted between them until they're at the same level which can cause them to overheat. The 2 and 4 Redvolt modules solve this problem by discharging the batteries one at a time.

hmm, but the quad module takes 4 batteries and drains them one at the time... and also the side handle battery is in standby until all else is out. I do not know to much about cameras batteries but to me it seems like having a XL module togheter with a quad should then be hypothetically possible. Then seeing the XL as the first battery in the chain and the side handle as the last. I guess there would have to be some programing made to allow all that to happen, as I understand these batteries are "smart" and provides the brain with their status so the brain can jump from one battery to the next as they run out. With that unproved logic of mine I have high hopes that RED makes it possible. So there for I order this unit with confidence :)

using this with the +1 module could you do this setup?

+1 module - 2nd touchscreen and redrock micoremote
XL1 module - teradeck bolt

Yes thats what I'm thinking.
having both a 2 pin and a 4 pin output. and powering from the XLs that has better amps than the volts. I want to run the bolt and the FF at the same time. And then also get the big touchscreen for the AC to look at. So it would be nice if somebody could confirm that this works. Just ordered the XL unit and 2 more XL bats.
