  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - REDVOLT XL Module

Do REDvolt XLs require trickle-charging as well?
+1 also to know the runtime (1 hour or 1.5 hrs), weight and dimensions vs a v-mount battery.

Very cool and that's awesome that it charges too!

Yeehaw! Ordered! Thanks Jarred, Brent, Matt, Jim, Kelly, James and anyone else I think I spoke to about wanting this module. Love the ability to use it both ways. This is a big deal for my setup.

Don't see it mentioned so I'll ask, it can be hot-swapped with the side handle attached and a Redvolt in the side handle, right?

And to piggy back on this question (if you don't mind, Mark) - we can use a V-mount battery in the belt adapter plugged into the EPIC and this Redvolt XL module and a redvolt in the side handle, and all three can be hot-swapped as long as atleast one is providing power to the camera, yes?

Thanks.

the Small REDVOLTS dont have the amps needed to run AUX devices. You should try one of these Bjorn.. it has never come off my camera after I put it on. Its nice to get almost an hour of battery with the XLs and they are just at the limit of Airline Safety carry-on.

*You can take on up to I think 160-190wh. Just limited to 3 of them. I usually bring 3 big bricks and then a gaggle of 90wh batts (which are unlimited in quantity). I'm a huge fan though of the 90wh battery and this is really tempting.

This is a perfect example of RED's philosophy of design and exactly why you want a camera designed by people who use cameras and not product engineers with no real world experience. It just makes sense.

Jarred,

any idea how long it takes to charge the battery , because I'd love to be able to leave without charger when possible.

When you use the module off the camera it acts as a stand alone 2 amp charger which is pretty quick. Not as fast as the Quad charger but pretty fast. When you are using it on camera, it will trickle charge while it is powering the camera to make sure it is always charged up.

Its great when travelling light.. Fantastic actually. And its great how we use the cameras at the studio when the camera is on a dolly or tripod plugged in and to know its always gonna be charged when you pull the camera off to go quickly shoot something.

I'm telling you.. as much as I love our modules that we have made in the past.. this one feels like the beggining of getting things just right.

Oh wow. that is acutally really cool. I thought you could only charge while on the camera, but off the camera that actually brilliant. I guess i did see your vision until just now! I'm going to have to get me one of those!

just when i thought it was perfect....here comes the charging!
it obviously won't charge redvolts? right?
how much runtime with one XL?

Can't ask for more than an hour of a battery that size.

I'm still using ABs for universality but I'd like to check these out in the future.
