  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Update......

We just made this all up here so no there was no official statement or policy or email sent out... it was just a flying-by-the-seat-of-our-pants adjustment for those here who asked as much.

The AKS credit was a NAB thing that was stated to end at NAB but since that roll out of information at NAB was a clusterfuck ( my fault ) we've kinda just let it live on till everyone got their heads around it. So it was convenient to finally cap that out when we made the overall price adjustment going to aluminum bits.

But anyways... yes that deal is over, it needs to be because as much as we love you all we do need to actually make money to keep the lights on.

That said, I am rather useless at following rules so I will empower our bomb squad reps to make a call on you stragglers out there that still want to jump in .... but I am going to leave that to your sweet-talking skills between you and your rep.

So get out the flowers, the chocolates and the romantic music, call or email your bombsquad rep and pour on the sugar. Do it quick though... Every day you wait though its going to be a harder and harder sell till we get to December 1st when the reps just wont be able to enter that credit into the system.

Lots to be thankful for today, but having the best customers in the world is near the top of that list.

We are the underdogs.. Our passion and dedication to making the best cameras in the world just barely camouflages our dysfunction and abnormalities and the fact that you guys continue to stand by us as we navigate through this journey together means the world to us. So thank you.

P.S.. Seriously if you do convince your bombsquad to do this you gotta at least send them flowers, those guys and girls work hard and they really do give a shit about all of you.. this isn't just a job to anyone that works at RED.

P.P.S. Don't tell Brent about any of this :)

Happy thanksgiving!

Goddamit!! I need to get a personal loan in 3 days!

Jake, sorry, but credit is applied at time of final invoicing of the upgrade so cannot use credit before that.

Do we have to use all credit at time of invoicing or can we use partial at shipping and the rest later?

Also can the credit be used towards balance? I remember there being a conversation about it but do not remember what came of it

In my case, the credit showed up in my account about a week after the camera was delivered. I have only used part of it, for the new LCD. The rest is still in the account. Hope that helps Elsie.

Works as confirmation for me... '-)

I guess I learned first hand about why people had problems with the name "Weapon" before, since my bank payment has been halted due to the name "Weapon" in the order description.

I find it odd that your bank cares about what you spend your money on. It's really none of their business.

If a UK bank suspects that the person they are dealing with is from the US - they are required to report information about the individual to the US government (or possibly loose their US banking licence)

For AML (anti money laundering) purposes (say paying amounts over 10,000 EUR), there is a requirement when paying Indivuals to determine that person is from the EU - or if not, futher dudilligence is required.

For paying any company that has a business entity outside the EU, there is a requirement that a check is performed prior to sending a SWIFT payment. (Note : Paying RED EU does not require such a check)

Banks are required to check international payments againts a series of 'lists' - which produces a plethora of false positives (due to the underlying software - eg Funtechs offerings - depending on 'fuzzy logic').

Cover payments (eg where the originator is in itself not the originator) requires further dudilligence to determine if the funds are from the EU.

Banks are obliged to ensure that neither you, nor the person money is being send to is from a 'politcally exposes person' - and if so, requires futher screening.

And in addition to legislative requirements ... some banks 'internal list' of words they used to 'flag' manual processing should do just that ... and not Block a Payment. If it is, I would suggest raising this with them.

And so ... I was just curious Which UK bank caused you grief - just so I can avoid them in my future dealings. :-)

It's the UK bank where Red UK is a customer at, so they gave me the information about wire transfer and I transfered it. My own bank has nothing to do with holding back my transfer, it's the UK bank that handles Red payment transactions. Which bank that is I'm not sure, I need to look it up, but it's the same bank that that I've payed to when buying the Epic MX, the Dragon upgrade and all other accessories I have.

Thanks Chris.

That organisation currently has an over zealous US DOJ guy biting at their heals daily...

The system they use also happens to have a mass of fuzzy logic as a good-guy list (to lower false positives) as long as your arm.

Try the banks in France!
I still have an account over there and when i was there this year for Cannes, I tried to withdraw a few hundred Euros.
I could only get the cash (I don't pay their 50 euro/year for a card) on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and I had to have a reason for withdrawing the funds.
Yikes!
Makes you appreciate living in the US where they only scrutinize you over $10k.
:001_huh:

Antony, thank you for all of the information. It's interesting and sad as the same time.

I sincerely hope a delayed bank transfer is the worst fallout from such a evocative name for a product that is operated on the street.

This incident is a reminder that what we write and what we say is being monitored.
Cameras are transported across and used in "conflict zones", in the age of terrorism that definition includes most western capital cities:(

A shoot can be delayed at very least, by police or security services who need very little excuse to question delay or detain the user of a "Weapon"

So unneccessary!

That's why I just put Red Cinema Camera and the SKU or Quote number.

Yeah, it was probably a mistake by me to include the full name of the product, but still, it would be easier to just have product names based on something else than the military. I mean, Dragon is a really good name, Raven is also a really good name. There are so many good names for Red cameras that works better and that's way cooler than military names.
