Young is the key word here. The old guard, as I call them, grew up shooting Arri. The next generation who grew up shooting on RED will shoot RED the remainder of their careers. I know I will. RED gave us cinema cameras that were within reach (and still do) when no other camera manufacturer would. That's not some thing that is forgotten.
Hey Mark, that's not fair... we actually did take community feedback.. alot of it.... I actually left it up to you all... Remember the poll? More than 50% ended up saying I don't care or keep the name... so it was actually incredibly democratic.. more democratic than you would ever have anywhere else. Of course... anywhere else probably wouldn't push the boundries as far as we do... intentionally or not.
But listen.. I get it. it's a fucked up world. And it just got even more fucked up over the last month. Do we want to make our customer's lives more difficult than they need to be? of course not.
If we took the poll again, what would the outcome be? right now.. I bet it would swing heavily in your favor. Does that mean anything? Probably. Is that worth changing a name of a product that has already been released? I don't know, maybe.
RED is all about our customers.. I hope you can agree that we have done our best to prove that over and over again.
You guys established a revolutionary/renegade/disruptive image early on and I get why. But now that you are well established as a technology innovator and industry leader, it feels like you could evolve the brand a bit to align to your stature in the industry. I actually think it would help secure more respect and acceptance of your products by those Arri fanboy
The only respect we work hard for is the respect for the images that our cameras produce. Nothing else matters.
thats great and all... But that's not who we are.
Saying we would be a better camera company if we stopped being RED is kinda like telling Bob Marley he would be a better musician if he shaved his head. Or telling Elvis he would be a better musician if he stopped wearing silly suits. Or telling Kurt Cobain he would be a better musician if he washed his clothes.
The only respect we work hard for is the respect for the images that our cameras produce. Nothing else matters.
I actually think it would help secure more respect and acceptance of your products by those Arri fanboys...
We have actually had RED folks there since 2012. Yes, we were there this year as well.
I believe the RED armor transfers over to the next camera when you upgrade it.I still have a couple years red armour on my dragon m, what happens to that when I upgrade to magnesium?
