  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I mean, Dragon is a really good name, Raven is also a really good name. There are so many good names for Red cameras that works better and that's way cooler than military names.

Just call it Epic-W if you need to.... fits alongside the soon-to-be Scarlet-W nicely.

A shoot can be delayed at very least, by police or security services who need very little excuse to question delay or detain the user of a "Weapon"

Couldn't agree more. That's why I was aghast by the the name choice. In an age of global terrorism, school shootings etc., why evoke a name associated with violence?

Unfortunately, that decision was made without consideration for community feedback. Great camera. Unfortunate name.

Hey Mark, that's not fair... we actually did take community feedback.. alot of it.... I actually left it up to you all... Remember the poll? More than 50% ended up saying I don't care or keep the name... so it was actually incredibly democratic.. more democratic than you would ever have anywhere else. Of course... anywhere else probably wouldn't push the boundries as far as we do... intentionally or not.

But listen.. I get it. it's a fucked up world. And it just got even more fucked up over the last month. Do we want to make our customer's lives more difficult than they need to be? of course not.

If we took the poll again, what would the outcome be? right now.. I bet it would swing heavily in your favor. Does that mean anything? Probably. Is that worth changing a name of a product that has already been released? I don't know, maybe.

RED is all about our customers.. I hope you can agree that we have done our best to prove that over and over again.
 
I'm still in MX. It's still a hell of a camera and will become a nice B-cam. But the call for higher frame rates is strong. I may go the raven it ticks 80 - 90% of the boxes. But a larger sensor and ability to switch between PL and EF would be great. 5k s35 16x9 would be great... I wonder if the new Scarlet will do 6k seeing as the Scarlet Dragon does 5k and the new Weapon is 8k... That'd be sweet.

I hope it will be 5-5.5k max with the best compression possible and a good price. If 6k means an expensive upgrade I'd prefer not. Scarlet is still a budget camera for most owners.

yes and thank you. the original branding for the camera was in your face, big huge Weapon lettering on the side, in place of the Dragon wording.. and now we can get the Stealth option (though it is still engraved with weapon from the pictures I've seen)... the name is cool as hell, but obviously doesn't work..

yes, a kid got arrested for bringing a clock to school and the authorities are just going to get stupider and edgier... Epic-W is okay, how about WPN? leave out some vowels, like The Weeknd

my favorite cinema camera and CEO, actually Jarred is the only executive I know I can drop a facebook message to and he'll respond... Can't wait for my Weapon!

Nobody here will be offended if you guys call the Weapon "Epic-W" . Happy to even make Epic-W logo coins for those that would prefer that instead of the Stealth Weapon logo coins.

Those that understand the true meaning behind the Weapon name will wear it proud... but again.. I understand if that just doesn't work for whatever environment you are in, or whatever conservative social group you may be surrounded by.

We at RED are just a bunch of passionate, determined misfits. We obviously don't put a whole lot of effort into being normal and we prefer to live our days pushing things past the limits. It's just what we do.... It's just who we are.

<---- I fall into that category and totally understand the underlying message. Much more real once you shoot with Weapon and see the results.
