and the best way to guarantee getting one of those cameras, is to invent it![]()
But that's cheating!

"The camera is arguably one of the most important of all inventions… it is the single tool that has the ability to stop time, record history, generate art, tell stories, and communicate messages that transcend language like nothing else ever conceived." Jim Jannard
It is pretty easy to see why milestone cameras are coveted by collectors passionate about photography.

I am currently suspended above the "vault" on wires, cutting into it with blue beams.
NAB 2006 was historical. We took deposits from a couple hundred folks "on a scam". They bet the longshot. They put down $1000 on something uncertain. That was a moment in time that will never be duplicated. Stories make history. History makes historical value.
I remember offering every one of the 1st 25 to give up their place for $5K plus airfare at the 1st RED Day in 2007. No one accepted. What a day! #6-25 are special in the history of RED. When the book gets written, the names of these people will go down as the brave 1st adopters.

Which RED One has been in space, that "One" will be a gem!
I agree, but it is the touching/seeing the material thing that brings the story of the inspiration to life, and thus further inspires.
The physical artifact is what keeps the story alive.
Does doesn't it....
there's some other interesting stuff on the shelf besides cameras.... a 1960's geiger counter, some unopened kodachrome from 1937, some WWII cameras with the bomber insignia painted on the cases, some very early waterhouse lenses.
I have a few pretty neat things I've inherited from my father as well.... he was in the CIA and was involved with the SR71 blackbird from the early 60's until it was mothballed in 1990ish.... I used to raid his tool box in the garage when I was a kid and steal titanium nuts and bolts and put them on my mongoose BMX bike ( I'm guessing 79-80 ).... incidentally, I remember him telling me the SR71 went "digital" in the early 80's, but also have fond memories of him showing me 9" recon film rolls and pointing out Russian Subs. I got into photography around 10 years old because of my Father... he would have been very thrilled to see the RED but passed away 5 years ago.
Since I've rambled here ( 5 shots of espresso this morn,,, sorry ) here's a pic of my father with that baddest camera platform every made! The SR71... miss ya Dad!

I shot every Oakley ad for 20 years... and this commercial. Actually, I wrote it, directed it, was DP, set designer, and film loader. 6 people total. Not saying it is that good... 1992.

Indeed.Genius thread. Who will upgrade now. Just buy new.
That's it.(...)
In March a little film called Miracle Fish will be up for an Oscar - for best short film - made by Luke Doolan - shot on that #22 Red. At some point the expression "priceless" doesn't cut it.
