  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 17...

I like good spelling, in any language, even those I don't master, as this.

i am smiling all the time! Steward told us that sdi with sound will be embedded, is it in build 17, it would be great for the movie i'm going to shoot in october?
 
How about a voice activated record option. "Action", bang red is rolling.
 
The ability to cycle through different options with a single user button would be very very nice (ex: push once, false colors; push twice, zebra; push again, histogram etc - same with the focus-related options).

Also disabling the two record buttons (if one wishes to do so), as well as the two brightness buttons on top of the LCD, and making them into user buttons would also be of much help.
 
to make this camera 100% for me I need only 2 things

Atleast 40fps full sensor and rc45 for high detail scenes.

Then it would be perfect.

I have not had a single shoot yet without a need for high Fps and full sensor at once, 3k resolution wise is fine
but fov wise hurts.

Please jim I will pay money for full sensor high fps, if you need a dual cf slot for the speed etc or a new port I will pay. Please don't make me pay 20k for the 2 features with an epic, I love my red!!
 
Sure seems to me the redraid ssd drive could do high Fps at 4k as new ssd drives have a very high write speed and jim could use 2 of them like the normal red raid for double the speed of one, I would guess around 160mb/sec with 2!!!!

That should be enough for 48fps 4k!!!!

Am I on to somthing here jim? Please say yes, it would make my day :)

You may have a hardware problem if you're experiencing shut-downs and boot problems regularly.

Dear Jim, could we have an outline of the main specs on build 17 please? Or at least a general objective, like 16 was all about image, is this one all about sound? (plus few corrections of B16 of course)...

i believe that higher frame rates at 4K is more of a sensor issue than a storage medium issue, right?
 
As stated before, it would be nice to be able to select which two monitor outputs get timecode (unless of course you could get all three going!).

I also had this problem until I looked closely at the contacts on the batteries. I found that on one contact the brass was partly covered by the black plastic of the battery shell, unlike the other contact points where the brass was plainly visible on the surface of the battery . A couple of minutes with a small knife later the problem was solved.

From my understanding the sensor runs at 60fps 4k all the time...so I don't see an issue other then storage write speed.
 
This is what I love about this company, forum and community. Forever surprises just like a birthday or Christmas all year.
I just received my camera and already I know what a smart investment descision it was as it's out on a feature working beautifully without any issues. Then, iData cable and audio board upgrade, then 16gb cf reader upgrade replacement, now another feature packed upgrade to look forward to! I would chime in with speculation but I really don't care to right now, I know whatever it is will be more than I'm working with currently (which i am very happy with) and for that I'm gratefull to the RED team. Keep the magic coming! You spread small bits of joy to all of us one Recon thread at a time :)

I had that problem. It was fixed by changing out the battery mount. It was intermittent, and therefore hard to diagnose. Extra plate is now part of my kit. - $175
 
Merry Christmas!!

Receiving free camera upgrades is like getting a brand new and better camera every time. To the kid in all of us, this is like having Christmas come 10 times a year! -for some 10 camera upgrades since Santa sent it to me 6 months ago! Now, Santa comes every two weeks. Who can possibly ask for more!!

Simply saying "Thank You Red" is an understatement. I never had this much fun with a toy.
