  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

17" Hanns-G monitor

you know, I just got the hanns-g that was linked to in the beginning of the post and when I set it to dvi menus the hanns-g won't display video at all, it just says "input out of range". It displays the video fine in the 720 mode, but the aspect ratio is off making people look skinny. I am on bulid 16. anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

It has worked fine for me for a couple months. including aspect ratio.
You must have something set wrong.

BTW, It works great on a Stanton jib, as long as you have ac power.

thanks for the reply, could you tell me what build you're on? As far as I know the only setting that affects hdmi output is the 720 or dvi option. I am using a hdmi to dvi cable.

is anyone using release build 16 having success with the Hanns-g 173Dbb in menu/dvi mode? I can't see an image while in this mode. This is the monitor that mike links to in the beginning of this thread that Jarred has recommended.

anyone?

Well. it's not a build 16 thing. I wonder if either my camera needs to go in for service or if they changed the hanns g firmware or something...or there may be operator error somewhere... I may have missed something, but as far as I know the only menu that actually affects hdmi output is the preview option to chose dvi/menu or 720.

Frank, what is your impression of the Hanns-G? Do you know if it does 1:1?

well mine sure doesn't do 1:1. I dunno if I have a newer hann g or if I have a bad one but it sure doesn't do what everyone here says it does. All i get is stretched 720. I emailed RED a couple days ago but no response yet. I might return it, I really wish it worked though. Can anyone recommend a dvi monitor that does 1:1?

When I went to Red Day, one of the monitors that was being used there was the LG Flatron L206WTY-BF 20" LCD Monitor. It was said to be a pretty good monitor and it was showing the menus, etc. It looked good enough to me that I'll probably pick one up too.

Anyone else try this one out?

thanks for the info jason, anyone else want to recommend a dvi monitor?

As far as I know if you are using the EVF and LCD simultaneously the menus aren't displayed out the HDMI (and of course HDSDI).
I realized this as soon as I got my EVF.
Not having a TC out (when both LCD and EVF are on) is a big issue on set...I've had to pull the EVF from the DP to allow timecode displayed on a BTLH1700 to keep the script supervisor happy:-(

Bumping this post to see if anyone's had luck with a 1:1 viewing option/preview on a good monitor. Preferably one with HDMI. Please advise, as these earlier posts seemed to be in a testing environment, and didn't come with a definite recommendation, thanks.
