  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Dragon Info and Data Sheets

Awesome work Phil. THANKS!

Thank you guys. Very happy that this sort of thing is useful. I have a few more "pages" I want to write up and then I'll figure out the PDF/App stuff. Doing my best to avoid "walls of text" and trying to simplify things down to the core of what's necessary to get rolling and making good choices when shooting.

I am Percy from Hong Kong, how could have the permission to reprint this for RED users in our egion.

I mean to post the update of Dragon info you made on Updated 06/27/2014
Tks

Absolutely Percy. And anybody else who desires to translate this into their preferred language. Feel free to do so. Just leave my website on there so people can track me down.

Mr Holland, you really are the Chuck Norris of RED digital cinema. Keep fighting the good fight!

PHIL, make a book please. I'll buy your first signed copy, this is super useful, presented graphically, with clarity for the new user. Seriously, Jarred, you gotta print this shit for us.

Jarred, you should put him on the payroll, to some degree, in some capacity.

Here's an idea for the future... a simple explanation of HDRx, with emphasis on what exposure info is provided, and the use of exposure tools, when in HDRx mode. Newbies often get confused by this... I did!

These should come as posters with the camera! ;-) Well done, Phil!

Is there a compression ratio chart for Dragon?

if it's ok with you, I've included these 7 pages into a PDF, helpful to have it on our smart phones for now, until it's updated with the new pages.

I'll have the more or less finished guide into optimized PDFs by the end of this week with some new pages "and things". I'm fine with you guys doing whatever with these, but for ease of use and updating sake I'd recommend downloading the pdf in about 5 days.

Hi guys, I have a question and sorry if the answer is already in this thread but i not quite sure if i got it right. When shooting for instance with a Scarlet Dragon in 3K FF we get the same field of view as 5K FF? Or the FF just means we get the full 3K dimensions within a crop from the 6K full frame?

You do not get the same field of view. Dragon is a multi-format system. When shooting at 3K you are getting a 3K resolution as well as the windowed format size within the sensor.

This graphic shows the effect:

Thanks Phil. I guess my confusion was with the FF word. I though it meant "Full Frame" and scaled down but looks like it´s something like "Full Format" ratio as you don´t get the full frame window with the given resolution. Just a word confusion ;)
