  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Dragon Info and Data Sheets

Hi Phil,

the format key sheet you put together for the Dragon is awesome.

Although I'm so old tech, I'm still shooting with the MX sensor :)

I was wondering if anyone knows what are the dimensions and the diagonal in millimeters, of the MX sensor when shooting Epic 2:1 (5120 x 2560). I'd like to provide a VFX guy with as many useful infos for him to tackle some shots.

Thanks in advance.
Julien

Julien,

(IIRC) the pixel pitch on the MX sensor is around 5.4095xxxx microns so:

5K 2:1 | 5120 x 2560 | AR 2.00:1 | 13,107,200 pixel | 27.70 x 13.85 active area in mm

what Phil posted is the full sensor size or active area when shooting 5K FF | 5120 x 2700...

Okay. Time for 7 new pages. Many of these reflect many of the common questions I get asked about often (and I mean very often!). In particular this should be very useful for those new to Dragon or looking to learn more information on landing accurate exposure, locking critical focus, accurate in camera temperature, learning a bit about REDCODE RAW and REDMAGs, understanding Black Shading, and a quick look at Anamorphic Shooting.

That's my Friday evening post. Have a good weekend.

Hey Phil! This is just great! if you are not opposed to it, i will translate it into portuguese and print a booklet to sit with its case. Love your work man... its simply great (and complex at times)!

Rockstar.

Yeah surprised you guys haven't hired him yet.

Phil keep it up man. I think i follow your post as closely as do Jarred's and Jim's now. The the amount of knowledge that share tremendous. I think we all here on the Reduser owe you one.

Thanks Phil. Always great to have your input here.

One point from the start that has helped me, I was uncertain about the 240GB mag.
Good to know that its speed is better than the mags I have so far.
I guess, I can buy it now with confidence. :o) So, thanks a lot.

This stuff is crazy great. Don't know what to say other than THANK YOU!

PHIL, make a book please. I'll buy your first signed copy, this is super useful, presented graphically, with clarity for the new user. Seriously, Jarred, you gotta print this shit for us.

Phil, you made my night, this is so good. I didn't realize the touch screen had so many options, including the exposure/focus tools by pressing the histogram, might be able to give up the side handle now. Is there a way to access these tools as easily with the EVF, no side handle and no LCD?

Phil, you're the dog's bollocks.

Jarred, you should put him on the payroll, to some degree, in some capacity.

Here's an idea for the future... a simple explanation of HDRx, with emphasis on what exposure info is provided, and the use of exposure tools, when in HDRx mode. Newbies often get confused by this... I did!

Mr. Phil Holland, if I may call you that! Phil you really did-it this time, I just wanted to say “Thank-You” for ALL you have done!
