  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Dragon Info and Data Sheets

whats the max. usable sensor size on Dragon with ANA mode enabled? just trying to understand Dragon is bigger than 4:3 sensor which is 21.30mm x 17.8mm

Dragon 6K 6:5 shooting anamorphic produces an image plane of 18.95x15.8mm. 6:5 with 2X Anamorphic glass produces a 2.40:1 aspect ratio. 3792x3160 is the resolution. It's on the Format Key btw.

I'll have the more or less finished guide into optimized PDFs by the end of this week with some new pages "and things". I'm fine with you guys doing whatever with these, but for ease of use and updating sake I'd recommend downloading the pdf in about 5 days.

Hi Phil!

Any update as far as the upcoming pdf is concerned?
Thanks!

Hey Phil,

Just wanted clarification on the Scarlet Dragon FPS MAX

The numbers on your data sheet are current and not these? (red.com)

Hey Phil,

Just wanted clarification on the Scarlet Dragon FPS MAX

The numbers on your data sheet are current and not these? (red.com)

The numbers that Phil listed as MAX SCARLET DRAGON FPS are maximums at some minimum compression rates. I just looked at the frame rates of the latest (5.2.21) beta software on my SCARLET DRAGON, and they all exceed (some by a fraction of a frame) the numbers in the thumbnail (presumably taken from the latest draft of the DSCM ops manual).

YMMV regarding max at min compression because if you shoot PAL, you're going to tolerate slightly more compression to shoot 25 fps rather than 23.98...which is not reflected in Phil's chart.

Everything I'm listing is what's in the manual. Specs are a moving target too as features are added to the camera. The beta build for Epic Dragon for instance has slightly faster rates.

Hi there

Is it fare to say that Dragon @ 6KHD and 5:1 compression is around 120MB/s

also

what's the deal about 12 bit or 16bit raw recoding ? since there is no setting for is ? what is recorded at 12 and what at 16?

thanks lot

Random little detail : I've seen from various sources that a 645 stills frame is actually 56x42.5, not the nominal 60x45 you have on the chart (http://www.artbyphil.com/temp/reduser/phfx_SensorChart2014.jpg). Also I'm not sure I'd call it "220" film; you pretty much have to buy 120 these days few films come in 220 anymore.

Quick update, a little write up on the Interchangeable OLPF.

Red Dragon Interchangeable OLPFS

I'm flying to Tokyo in just a few hours to conduct the next Red Dragon Workshop. We'll be discussing a great deal of what this thread covers and a whole lot on the OLPFs as well.

Just a small update to the Red Dragon Format Key adding 6K 3:2 information in there.
