  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD HOTLINK + HOT TAP + HOTBOX R/S WIFI for RED DSMC cameras

Just upgraded my Dragon and i can use the redmote up to 100 up to 150 feet!
See you sateray at the IBC !

New showreel on www.camlight.nl
Interesting. Well, then it must be something in my Redmote, I have an early one since I took a stage 2 Epic X upgrade a few years ago. Maybe they changed something in the Redmote since I got mine... Good to know it's at least working for some people. :)

Does the hotlink stream video or do you need something else? I'm thinking about using fool control for focus but would need some way to see the image at the same time.

Mark,
Am I understanding correctly that the 2 pin Lemo output of the Red XL module can power the Hotlink?
Thanks,
AJ

I'm not Mark but yes XL module or +1 module 2 pin lemo works.

No image on REDLink protocol... Only histogram and camera control. Need to add a paralinx for wireless video signal.

Definitely ordering this before Friday. What input voltages are supported for the Hotlink? Couldn't find that on the website and don't think I saw it in this thread. I'm wondering if a P-tap to Lemo 2-pin cable running directly off a 14 V (or thereabouts) standard V-mount battery or battery plate will work.

The HOTLINK was designed to take power from all broadcast batteries - spec exceeds 18 volts - I'll get back to you with the exact spec.

The USB Mini power input just takes 5V power from USB as an option.

The PCB inside the HOTLINK only uses 3.3V - anything you throw at it - we are regulating down to 3.3V

Keep the questions coming - I'm working on a detailed FAQ - but I won't be able to publish until I get back from IBC - I'll try to jump on here every night as best I can and answer questions.

Speaking of IBC -

HOTLINK, HOTTAP, HOT BOX + FOOLCONTROL IOS in the RED booth.

HOTLINK & FOOLCONTROL IOS also in DJI & FREEFLY booths.

Mikael - who codes FOOLCONTROL and ME - live in person everyday in the RED booth demo'ing and answering all questions.

There's a DRAGON in the RED booth with WMD lens control, SWITCHBLADE, HOTLINK, HOTTAP and "something different" from RED on it displaying images - it's pretty bad ass.

Or a Teradek CUBE.

A teradek bolt will work fine for focusing... a teradek cube not so much with the latency... and both hotlink and cube are easy to use in adhoc mode without any router... so you would need 2 iDevices to connect to both device at the same time without switching networks...

edit : bolt and not bold... hate those auto correction things !

Works like a dream. Tested. Slick. I'm gonna add SHORTER lengths of the 2-pin to 2-pin LEMO and the 4-pin to 2-pin LEMO based on feedback I got today. There's a pic on my Twitter and Instagram of a HOTLINK on Mikael's camera with a short cable (10" end to end including connectors) and it's pretty sexy IMO with the very short cable. Shorter cables limit you - BUT - 99% of cables made for camera AKS are TOO DAMN LONG.

True dat.

I should have said Teradek BOLD - better product for sure.

Mark are we billed now or when each component ships?

You are billed now.

We are VERY confident on our shipping dates - if you get your order in before the show opens TOMORROW AM in Amsterdam - I'll bust my ass 24/7 to get your order out the week of October 6th.

As I mentioned - there will be a delay between production run 1 and production run 2 - because I'm sucking it up and playing an expedite fee on the first shipment of PCBs to get these on the street quickly - so - I'm eating into my margin bigtime - But I want to ship quick because I feel that MORE people will order when the stuff is out in the wild and the feedback is positive :)

You can wait - and at some point - we will be able to ship the same week you order - BUT - that's a ways away. We sold more in 24 hours than I though we'd sell in a week.

cant wait to see it tomorrow at IBC and have questions for you and Mikael as I guess your inbox is full at the moment :)

Let me just say this - as much as I would LOVE to take credit for FOOLCONTROL it is all Mikael. And he showed me the new stuff for Canon still glass - and it is INSANE.

INSANE.

INSANE.

INSANE.

Seriously ... you actually need to see it to BELIEVE it.

Honestly ... what he has done in software for LENS CONTROL .. well ... if RED doesn't hire him ... someone else in gonna ... it's NUTS. GAME CHANGING NUTS.

I'll order later today, thanks!

Alright, sir. I'm in.

And yes, if you can manage short and thin cable runs, I am sure all the gimbal users will rejoice. Are you positively going to manufacture along that route? If so, that is what would prove most useful with my order.

Thank you,

Eryc

Just to get official clarification, can the ProIO power the Hotlink? I know that it's power output is somewhat, well, useless/below-standard, so it'd be nice to have it confirmed.

Once you see what you can do with electronic stills glass and FOOLCONTROL iOS - you will go out and buy more stills glass. I'm still trying to calm down after Mikael showed me some new stuff today that exploded my little head.

100% - we are doing it in the RED booth all day, everyday during IBC. The HOTLINK uses an insanely little amount of power. We ran it on a bench in the early days with two double A batteries.
