  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD HOTLINK + HOT TAP + HOTBOX R/S WIFI for RED DSMC cameras

I did. Margin too small

I can easily make a solution for this - and it should be no problem - but I need to get someone to loan me a Nyrius Pro to test - are they at IBC? If so - can you reach out and tell them to come find me in the RED booth?

Mark, so cool of you to respond with such an accommodating attitude. I can't help you out in terms of IBC, but I'd be happy to send you my Nyrius in NY when you return as well as links to the specs. I'm going to go back to Amazon today or this weekend to search for a two output USB battery in the same rough form factor as the one I'm using. I searched pretty thoroughly before I bought the one I have, which I chose for mounting reasons on my Helix setup, and didn't see one, but I'll look again. That should obviate the need for any special cable, but your willingness to try to put something together is most appreciated.

I am going to add PIN OUTS for every single cable in the store - AND the exact connector name - after IBC.

The ONLY reason we are even selling cables is that as a rental house - we are CONSTANTLY fixing and rebuilding poorly made, cheap cables - and finally we had enough. We aren't making much money at all on our cables - we just felt that someone needed to sell high quality, zero compromise cables. They are all hand made and tested in NYC - not in our shop - but with our electronics partners who are way more skilled than anyone I have ever made cables with.

I will ADD BarTech/HELIX reversed polarity cables to the store it's not a problem - it just sucks because people are gonna blow stuff up if they confuse the cables.

I think I might make all the "US Standard" (aka the STUPID polarity) - (PIN 1 = POWER) cables another color.

It really pisses me off that a few companies are choosing "US Standard" - as it's NOT a real-world standard - and it's totally goofy to call PIN 1 = GND as "ARRI standard". It's not just Teradek and RED and ARRI that have GND on PIN 1 - it's the military and medical industries. PIN 1 = GND is the "real-world" standard - not just the "ARRI standard".

Until I have a chance to add the STUPID version of the 2-pin to 2-pin to the store - just order as-is - and I will email everyone with a 2-pin to 2-pin ordered and confirm polarity before shipping.

This is great news, and I concur whole-heartedly about making these cables a different color. At the present time, I'm the only one who sets up my gear, but it would be a nice reminder even for me to make sure I'm always using the right cable on the right gear.:-) So I will wait until I see that you've added the US cables to the store and then will order one. Can I somehow get it to ship with my already-ordered HOTLINK to save a nickel on shipping or can I otherwise modify that order to include the new cable when it becomes available?

Sorry - the OFFHOLLYWOOD staff is doing their best to field calls. I'm gonna publish a nice FAQ soon.

The HOTLINK comes with the DSMC Serial Cable - this is just a 4pin 00 LEMO to 4pin 0B LEMO cable. Wired pin to pin (1-1, 2-2, etc.) - this connects to the CTRL port on DSMC cameras.

You need to power the HOTLINK with another cable that you already own or ned to buy. If you are powering from P-Tap - you want a P-Tap ro 2-pin LEMO cable - buy ours - or buy one from Teradek or LAIRD. Ours are better :)

Thanks, Mark. Ordered yesterday for the Hotlink.

Here's a little video of the HOTBOX - this is the big boy for rental houses - run/stop & power distro for RED DSMC cameras, ALEXA/AMIRA, F5/F55 - also WIFI and TC input for RED DSMC cameras.

This is why I'm ditching my Rokinons cine lenses, Zeiss ZE still lenses and loading up on Sigma ART glass. I'm losing the ability to pull Iris but with my type of shooting and clients, it's not required. I'll rent when those cases come up.

Are the Sigma supported?

Im still in the dark whether my Tokina 11-16 works with current Scarlet firmware.

Bravo. I wish more companies would adopt this level of care for their customers.

Okay Ill ask the stupid question here.

I want the HotLink, is that all I need to order for my current Scarlet?

I just want foolcolor control period.

Also power would come from BRICK, so do I need a tap cable option as well?

Like I said, stupid ;)

HOTLINK ships with the Serial cable for your DSMC camera - you need to buy a power cable if you don't already have one in your kit - 2-pin lemo - you can go 2-pin lemo to 2-pin lemo on quickplate module or XL Module - or - buy a 4-pin to 2-pin for + 1 module - or use P-Tap to 2-pin from battery plate or HOTTAP.

See now your making it easy for me to pick the HOTBOX WIFI ;)

all compliments to Mark for this. Saw this in real life and it works like a magic. Also Hot Link is so small and light! Good job Mark and nice chatting with you.

I checked out Mark’s boxes yesterday, they are worth every cent. Sturdy design and thought-out, there are the right power connectors in, also start/stop, TC and you can use them with any camera.

WiFi control of the REDs with Foolcontrol is really handy and there will be more often Canon EF lenses on set…

Just FYI - I talked yesterday with the company that is producing our PCB - and I have until Monday to give them the number for initial expedited run of boards for the HOTLINK and HOTBOX WIFI - so - as long as you get your order in BEFORE Monday - I can get you into the first batch - and there will be a delay between batch 1 and 2. Orders do ship in the order placed.

Hi Mark,

Do you have the 4-pin Lemo to RTmotion MK3.1 receiver for the HotBox R/S?
(or did someone already asked this)

I will get the pin outs from RTmotion and add to the store. I travel back to NYC on Tuesday so might not be in the store until wednesday as it is pretty busy here.

Great. Thanks Mark :)

Mark I ordered the hotlink. So if i want to have the hotlink active using the sync port, there's no way to have start/stop control from another manufacturers focus wheel correct? I'm running a rt motion ff, and want my AC to be able to start and stop via the rt motion controller, but others to have control of your app. Not possible correct?
