  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD HOTLINK + HOT TAP + HOTBOX R/S WIFI for RED DSMC cameras

HOTLINK ships with the Serial cable for your DSMC camera - you need to buy a power cable if you don't already have one in your kit - 2-pin lemo - you can go 2-pin lemo to 2-pin lemo on quickplate module or XL Module - or - buy a 4-pin to 2-pin for + 1 module - or use P-Tap to 2-pin from battery plate or HOTTAP.

Mark, when mounted to HH gimbals or UAV, I would need a Lipo to 2-pin lemo option for power. Do you have a cable solution readily available for such workflows. I have checked Laird and the standard assortment of cable suppliers/manufacturers, but have not found a solution. I believe Redrock produces such a cable for it's FF unit, but I'm not sure the specifications would match up with the HOTLINK.

What caveats would I need to be aware of for such an installation, or creating a custom solution? Would this cable work?

Edit: I looked on your store at the power cables page, and did not see anything listed to fit the need.

Yes - the cable from FREEFLY will work - and that is what they used at IBC.

We can add the same cable to the store as well.

Sweet. Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, adding that to your site might be helpful for others looking to power the unit in the same manner. I have a sneaking suspicion that I am not the only one with the requirement.

Mark,
Forgive me if this has been answered earlier, but what are the weights of the Hot Link and the Hot Box R/S?

Another her power cable option for you:

Paralinx JST-Lemo

store is live - I'm tired :)

Scratching my head here. When I go super light REDVOLT handheld mode, how do i power the Hotlink ?. I noticed the USM power input, put we still need a battery for no doupt.
Can the Hot link be powered from the REDVOLT through the camera somehow.

Any ideas.

It can if you have a +1 module and get the right cable from Mark... If not you can always replace your REDmote at the back by a REDlink bridge.

Well .... I have a idea.

It's kinda one of those "think outside the box" ideas that just came to me.

The HOTLINK connects via CTRL port on the DSMC brain. We use Pins 1, 2, 4 for rs232.

Pin 3 is GPIO Output - which can present 3.3V when the camera is rolling.

So .... if the firmware wizards could add a little checkbox that would present the 3.3V on that pin ALL THE TIME - I could just grab the power from that pin since the HOTLINK PCB runs on .... 3.3V :)

Not sure if it's possible - BUT - that would mean everyone could power a HOTLINK with the one cables that comes with it.

Just thinking out loud ....
