Thanks Mikael, that's kinda what I was thinking too. Bummer! Both the Scarlet-W and Raven arrived in not-quite-100% condition (Raven has a bum 4.7" LCD). Had hoped they'd be ready for action right from day 1.

hmm.. not much more luck in infrastructure mode with a router. The Scarlet-W occasionally drops out (every few minutes) and the app gives the dialog: "Connection Error; Camera is not available at this address. Verify that no other device is already controlling this camera." (screen grab attached). Makes me think the camera still thinks it's attached, though control has stopped. Also, the Scarlet-W won't shut down after this error, locks up with the "Shutting Down..." dialog on screen, which is worrisome :/

Edit: tested the Raven on the same network and iPhone, bulletproof connection. Something about this Scarlet-W is different. It's rigged up with an outrigger handle and EVF on an arm. Think that much metal above the camera would interfere?

Mikael, apologies for not following up on my problem as I have encountered a new problem (home water supply is down... ah, the bucolic life '-)

Matt's post gave me the idea to test further on my RAVEN to see if I have the same issue as with my CF WEAPON. I'll report back once I done that test... after I get the water problem solved.

Almost forgot... tried the dedicated IP you posted earlier in this thread and still didn't work.

Mikael, foolcontrol seems to have troubles reconnecting resp. finding the camera. This happens when you either move the camera or the iPhone out of wifi range - connection gets lost. However, once you move the camera/iPhone back into wifi range, foolcontrol cannot find the camera although camera and iPhone are connected to the router. I also tried with fix IP, different wifi channels, Airplane mode, same foolcontrol does not find camera. Only way is to reboot camera.
As long as you stay within wifi range, connection is solid.

My setup: Scarlet-W with DIY external antenna solution in infrastructure, TPlink 300n router

Any idea?

I sometime experienced this issue where wifi on camera won't find a router or find it but will not let foolcontrol re-connect and only a camera reboot will let me connect as normal...
I wonder if there's an issue in camera fw that could create this. I will try to experiment and reproduce the issue here see if I can get any clue...

might be worth saving a log file and sending to red support via red.com to see if they can find anything related to wifi on the camera's end

I wonder if there's an issue in camera fw that could create this. I will try to experiment and reproduce the issue here see if I can get any clue...

Will do as soon as I can reproduce such an issue.
Also noticed that in some cases when you switch from Ad Hoc to infrastructure (or maybe it was the opposite) the camera required a restart to be reachable on the new network...

Mikael, these are the same issues I was having. RED's engineers have been working on it for some time to fix the issue with reconnecting / not be able to reconnect in infrastructure mode. And the problem of switching between infrastructure and ad hoc.

Here's the interesting thing though, while in the past I've had all these problems before.........yet in the the last two weeks I've been using a LATITUDE-MDR box with the camera in Infrastructure mode and have had NO problems at all. I use the LATITUDE-MDR to generate a wifi signal and then connect the camera to that network and connect my phone to the same LATITUDE network to control the camera using Foolcontrol. It's working really well.

Where as using infrastructure mode with a wireless router was not working for me. (Although I did remove the metal top handle from the camera. Maybe that was causing tons of interference, idk.)

I am very much interested in the Latitude as well for my drone work. So you are saying with Latitude reconnecting camera and iPhone works fine?
Can you tell how much range you get? Did you only use the Latitude MDR without the additional Latitude Standalone Battery Box?

Not sure if this helps.

I have just had a period where the camera would not respond to Discovery.

+) I upped the MacOS timeout to 10 x the default -> still no response from the Camera to discovery.

+) Confirmed that iOS also 'not seeing' discovery messages.

+) I then undid the last change using the Camera Touch Screen: (turning off Exposure Assist)

- Goto: Menu > Exposure Assist
- Set "Mode" to "Single Shot"
- Set "Exposure Priority" to "Tv"
- Close the menu

+) Not sure if this helped, or it was incidental -> but discovery then 'came back to life'.

I tested as much as I could when I was near a stormtrooper in the past weeks, and seems to be all good (can select 8K res etc) but I obviously never tried on EPIC-W yet ...
I will have to see about any Helium specific feature (new color science etc) down the road and provide updates to support them if needed as I only have Dragon brain to fully test on for now.



edit : someone just tested on EPIC-W with a nice shiny iPhone 7+ ;-)

Are you able to access focus menu with the GDU?
Looks like my Epic-W with standard Canon mount does not recognise the GDU lenses (tried both 24 and 40).
Any clue why?

Hello Thai.
I have not testes on EPIC-W but there is no reason for it to different than other DSMC2 and yes GDU lenses do work with foolcontrol.

Strange that on your setup, even iris is Not Available...

Does your mount work with other lenses, or are you able to set appertuee on any of those lenses using your mounr without foolcntrol from camera UI ?

Let me know your FW version. But I have never seen that so it could be fixed by :
Re-seating lens
Re-Installing mount
Re-discovering camera accessories or re-installing firmware.
Cleaning lens mount contacts...

Mikael, unfortunately I only have manual lenses so cannot test (besides the GDUs).
Firmware is 6.3.38

I last used the exact same Canon mount on a rented Weapon CF and it worked fine with the GDUs.

I will try to remount later.

I've been eyeing foolcontrol for some time now, but I've never pulled the trigger because I've only rented REDs before. Just put in my order (S-W > E-W) yesterday and pulled the trigger on foolcontrol today! Looking forward to it!
