Cameraman needed for Mexico shoot

Hi folks

We are looking for a cameraman to film a two day job in Mexico - Villahermosa, Tabasco. Doesn't have to be a RED shoot, spec is for HD 1080p 25 delivery but RED is best as we all know :yesnod:

Shoot is W/C 15th October (2 days, exact dates TBC) and will consist of 1 short interview and then exterior GV's of people and industrial plant.

For the interview, we may also need you to provide a producer to ask the questions etc. Sound will be simple, one personal mic + gun mic and so I don't think it merits a sound recordist but please cost for this in case.

I think in terms of getting the permits/paperwork arranged for this, this job will be restricted to Mexico based cameramen but if you have experience there and can get in and out with your kit and are US based, then fine.

Agreed, best to have a Mexican to do this....Mexico is always a challenge: work permits, film permits, customs permits/temporary importation of gear etc....all which usually kill quick shoots here.

I shoot in Mexico about 6 times per year and have never had a problem with paperwork, gear, etc. Come to think of it, the last shoot I had in MX, customs held our 2 way radios for 24 hours, but let the other 6 cases of equipment go thru with no problem! There was one other time a few years ago they gave us a hard time about the lighting equip. But other than that you get a video camera, and one still camera per person, and most Mexicans will welcome you...especially if you say you're with the tourism board.

Yes, this is usually the case with most "individuals" coming to mexico on the "low down". Try this with a full professional kit--lights, mattebox, sticks, sound etc....and get a customs inspector paying attention and you have broken a number of laws: You also sign a tourist card on the plane claiming you are a tourist and not working, nor have anything to declare and if found otherwise you are told your gear will be confiscated. So, yes, many get through with it and i did for many years. But wait fo that one day when your gear gets confiscated. And one really can't complain, because it's the law. I've been to the airport a few times at my local airport getting folks bailed out and some of them only their gear and a return flight back to the states. But if you are willing to risk your gear, that's all our individual choice.

well, I guess I've been lucky. I travel every time with sticks, epic, lights, jib, slider, box, filters, dslr backup, audio, glass, and assistants, as well as check 'business travel' box on customs. I can't say you're comforting me on the next trip there though in 3 weeks!

well i do have her around my neck, so maybe thats why they let me in! I am going to do a bit more research though now that you've got me scared...I will say I have had terrible, horrible, awful times getting in and out of Jamaica. That place is the worst.

I do and I also maintain mexican and american passports, so no work permit issues.
