  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FOOLCONTROL for Iphone @ IBC

Just bought the app yesterday for a shoot and liked it a lot. Had some connection issues but it got better when I put the phone in flight mode forgot all surronding networks and prevented it from autolocking didnt really have time for fine-tuning the networksettings more so hopefully it will be even better when our scarlet-w shows up..

One thing that might be possible already but just thought of it, wouldn't it be possible to program the volume buttons to either run/stop the camers or mark frames while recording? Maybe even both, up/down or user selectable?

Yes wanted to do that but unfortunately that is not allowed by Apple except for some photo apps I think. The volume buttons cannot be assigned to custom actions :(

Any tutorials to show how to setup a reliable wifi network so that the connection isn't lost due to wifi roaming?

Hey Mikael, will FoolControl output the Timecode as an audio signal from the device? This would let us use the camera's Timecode as master and sync our recorders/other devices to it through a cable from the device.

Alternately, I suppose we can set the camera Timecode to the device's Time of Day, then sync that to other devices through cable.

Please let me know any other options for syncing this way.

The RED Control Protocol does not allow accurate time code sync... received TC is onlynprecise to the second (and not frame accurate) and setting camera TC to iOS Tien is possible but again will be precise but may not be enough from frame accurate TC sync like you would get with a dedicated device or OMOD...

Patrick, feel free to email me for any help... wif robustnessi is very dependent on the surrounding environment ... use of a small router, using a software for scanning wifi channels of existing network or using a stronger antenna are among solutions to help get a reliable setup...

Same problems with my SW and TPlink router. Sometime Foolcontrol can't reconnect to camera but I see iPad is connected to TPlink's wifi. Also in SW menu I see that camera is connected to TPlink.
Switching to Adhoc or disable wifi and swithing again to infrastructure would not initialize connection again.
Only solution is to shut down camera but it freeze during shutdown procedure. After that only possible solution is unplugging power.
 
I had a this issue too when using foolcontrol and TPlink router for aerial work.
It gets so annoying that I decided to invest into rtmotion Mk3.1 handcontroller and Latitude. Now, problem is gone.
The best and most stable solution is by mounting Latitude to camera/gimbal, set camera to infrastructure and connect to Latitude wifi.
Like this your camera is always connected to Latitude wifi which handles it much better than TPlink router. You are still limited by wifi range, though. If you want long range you need to add a second Latitude. However, rtmotion is still working on firmware. So as of writing, Latitude long range is not working.

And make sure you turn on Latitude first before turning on your camera. Otherwise your camera won't find Latitude at booting and you have to go into menu to change it.

I have one request. In foolcontrol once connection is re-estabished (after connection lost) you still have to tap on the camera icon in the starting screen to get into setting menu screen.
Can it be programmed that foolcontrol will go straight back into setting menu screen without having to manually tap on camera icon once connection is re-established? I find it annoying because you don't know exactly when connection is re-established and you keep tapping on camera icon and nothing happens. Would be great if this happens automatically.

I know it is on the same 2.4Ghz as RC but have been flying this setup for over a month now with my Epic-W without any issues.
On a recent job, I also flew at Geneva International Airport - I was the first pilot who got the special permit to fly at an international airport with a drone during traffic hours - where there are lots of interference. No prolem whatsoever. Maybe because I never fly in GPS?

Also, for Dsmc2 cameras with built in wifi, I guess they are on 2.4Ghz too. Never got a single issue when I started flying with a loaner Scarlet-W 6 months ago.
Maybe Mark from rtmotion can chim in here. Could be that Latitude uses different protocol? I only know that I never have a single issue with interference, neither with Dsmc2 wifi turned on nor with Latitude.

If everyone can share their logs with Red .... it will surely give more other 'data points' to Analyse and fix.

Antonny, I am not sure I follow. In the past, my camera kept locked and the only way is to reboot.
But when you add Latitude and your camera is permanently connected to Latitude, there are no more issues with reconnection.
So my take is that Latitude is doing something the TPlink router or internal camera wifi doesn't - in a possitive way of course.

What I also noticed, Epic-W has more stable wifi (without Latitude) connection than Scarlet-W. Maybe Red improved internal wifi with Epic-W, I don't know.

I'm seeing the same issue and have to hard reset the camera by holding the power button down. I'm only getting 10-20 minutes before the connection drops. Happens with ad-hoc and infrastructure mode; I've sent the logs to RED but they couldn't see an issue. I hope there is a solution for this as I absolutely love using FoolControl.

If I was to speculate : I would guess there is a 'data-induced' issue in the firmware that causes the Firmware code that deals with sending data out of the Wifi-network that the Camera creates (as opposed to a network that it joins) to stop working as intended.

I did some experiments - taking the camera in a Faraday-like cage (to see the effect of EM Interfecnece) and experiment with two clients (different code bases), and a video or two of watching the camera wifi 'lockup' / timeout / recover after 'playing' in the Adhoc menu.

As my gut feeling is this is connected to SSD 'issue' that others have seen, I am very keen for all to provide Red with trace logs.

I must admit this goes beyond my technical understanding. :-)
Stange though is that some folks still encounter this issue with TPlink router while Latitude resolves the problem.
Best to reach out for Red engineers.

Hello Mikael! :) Is there a way to "pinch zoom" in the Linear FOCUS panel to get a more precise focus? I'm using the "precise line" but sometimes I have two very close points and it would be useful to zoom in and use the entire iPhone monitor to focus between those two points! Sorry for my twisted english :) Thank youuu.

You mean like adding min / max limits on the linear focus page like there is on the circular one ?

Only 1 direction in the current version but will look into adding a reverse wheel direction for future updates.
