  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Firmware Release Build v5.3.29

Love the new build however now I'm not able to display shutter angle on my SDI output overlay (but it works on my Red touch LCD). It worked before this build on the SDI output overlay... Am I overlooking something? Thanks!

Choose your User Key and Key Action.

MENU -> PRESETS -> CREATE -> KEY
Choose RM (REDmote) Keys to save (or choose ALL).

Backup PRESET to SSD and save it on your computer.

Ah damnit of course. I was stuck thinking about getting it off of the redmote itself :) hehehe. Stupid me

Side handle updated perfectly for me. Did take a bunch of reboots to do the sequence(i think 3), and i had to be careful not to interrupt the sequence by looking at the blinking "power' lights.

It looks like this was a bug introduced in 5.3. Thanks for reporting it; we will get a fix in as soon as possible.

Great build, however, my ZE Zeiss primes no longer display focal distance. I'm now seeing an "N/A" below the focal length in the upper left-hand corner of the display where the distance used to be. I tried refreshing the calibration of each of them, to no avail.

Should I have had my Side Handle mounted during upgrade to v5.3.29? I had all modules (except TouchLCD) unmounted during upgrade. After blackshading and power-down, I mounted my Side Handle. After power-up with Side Handle on there was no evidence of any further upgrading activity, but the Side Handle appears to be operating normally. I upgraded my RedMote using the RedMote Utility, but should I run the 5.3.29 upgrade on the Brain AGAIN with Side Handle....and Bomb EVF, and Pro I/O all mounted?

It doesn't matter if the Side Handle was attached to the camera when the upgrade occurred or not. We store the firmware upgrades for all the peripherals in-camera so that we can upgrade any peripheral you may attach at a later date.

If your Side Handle won't complete the upgrade correctly please file a support ticket and send in a log file as there might be something else going on.
 
I upgraded my firmware today and found something interesting.


Has anybody noticed that on Red Epic Dragon you can now Black Shade without a REDMAG or MINI-MAG inside the camera? I do have a 4K Broadcast Module attached, but it's working and not giving me an error. New feature silently released in there?

Upgraded last week but now the record light on the monitor doesn't show during record and the mag number is completely missing.
The camera still records but it's quite disconcerting.
Camera is a scarlet x

It sounds like you (accidentally?) changed the overlay on your monitor? Double check in Menu > Settings > Display > Monitor Control what the "Overlay" setting is for the monitor in question. By default it is "Standard (RED)".

With latest release build can we get full menus via +1 module or pro i/o module?

Yes, you have always been able to do this. By default, some monitor are set to "Clean" mode; you just need to change them to "Overlay" mode and set "Auto Hide Menus" appropriately (that is, uncheck it if you always want menus shown or check it if you want them hidden by default and shown on demand).
 
Just wrapped a large International TVC with two Dragons on this firmware.

It was perfect.

The images were great, the functions were excellent. Camera's performed in a variety of extreme temperatures and set-ups.

I really like the new additions to the Looks menu. Very nice to have that ability to control the image quickly on-set.
