Saw a few posts about this, a just wanted to share my solution for mounting a shotgun mic on a DSMC cam.

Major parts are a Rode shock mount ($50 - Got mine at Samys years ago - LINK) and a Noga Cinearm (Link)

A $9 XLR to Mini adapter from OPC Electronics in LA:

And a $1 3.5mm stereo cable

The cheap 3.5mm cable is the weakest link, and if I end up using this setup I'll probably get something more sturdy. But if you already own a Cinearm and a shock mount, it's about $190 cheaper than an A-Box and accomplishes the exact same thing.

Should be good quality scratch audio until I get my button mic in the mail.

And if you want to get wacky, the mic holder from an HVX200 screws on to the body of the scarlet perfectly.

Great to know, Ben ! 8-D
Many thanks

Hahahaha I am constantly looking for a solution to mounting a shotgun mic! I was just thinking of something like this the other day! I was thinking of getting one of those hot shoe adaptors for my cheese plate and mounting my rhode shock mount to that.

Ok until phantom power is enabled everyone is scratching around for scratch audio solutions!

Ben's shotgun mic is good. However my attitude is I want to buy as cheap as possible solution. Also something smaller & more discreet then Ben's. Once phantom power is enabled this mic will be going in the bin or being resold on ebay as there is a very small Sony mic that is perfect for phantom power. I know, I know........ you get what you pay for but the audio I need is for guide track reference only. For anything else, I use an Audio op with shotgun, wireless & mixer jacked into the camera & external digi recorder.

So heres a definite maybe solutions for crappy self powered cheapness with audio quality to match I imagine....

Can anyone find anything cheaper & more craptacular!

I dont think any of the posted options will work .......
a) because of the plug configuration
or
b) not self powered?

Yeh Patrick, that was the one I was talking about when phantom power is enabled . Unfortunately it cant work now because at the time that thread posted, Epic was enabled for phantom power, which it no longer is.

I think the best solution is to get the Wooden Camera hot shoe and then any one of the excellent available hot shoe solutions used by still camera shooters eg K Teck makes an excellent and inexpensive hot shot mount with all sorts of great accessories. So does Rycote. All consider this The J Cube pro hot shoe: http://web.me.com/jeffyr/Jrod/The_J-CUBE.html. They are all cheap solutions perfect for the Epic/Scarlet.

Oh s***t. And I even know about the phantom power being off... but didn't really check out the way the mic works. Sorry again. Maybe I was too tired last night to think....
