So what's the "ball on the ball" technique. Trying to figure out what it does.

It allows for a more controlled handheld feel. Jeff Cronenweth did something similar in GWTDT by taping a baseball to the bottom of the camera.

There is also a canadian company that makes heavy duty balloons that can be rigged to tripods or dollies to get that controlled handheld feel. Can't remember the name but it is the same idea. allows the dp to introduce the desired amount of shake and still feel natural.

What Bob said. Also, it provides a smoother handheld feel without inducing some of the micro vibrations of going purely handheld. Sort of like a shock absorbent effect, even with a baseball. Old school technique that works pretty well if you need a free and active camera move.

I'm going to have to try this next Sunday on "Jasper."

How much is the soccer ball Red module? Is it backordered lmfao:001_tt1:

What is on the plate above the ball to help hold it there?

Yes. It's just there to keep the camera on the ball. That's about 25-32lbs of camera up there. Don't want it slipping off if you get real excited while operating.

I am SO excited for Epic-D. I would be psyched just trading my Scarlet-X for an Epic-X. Scarlet-X to Epic-D however? Oh man...
