  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another update...

Honestly, from the tone of Jarred and Jim's posts, it sounds like there is another delay on the Scarlet 8x because of the parts from Japan. Also, from Jarrad's post #99 in this thread....sounds like a slight price increase.

As a hopefully future owner of a Scarlet 8x, this does not scare or turn me off from RED at all. I've been following Scarlet since it was announced, and though it has been delayed, nothing but good things have been coming from the program: the complete re-design, HDRx, etc. I know RED is committed to its customers, and the delay hurts them as much as it hurts the potential customers. I have faith that I will be shooting on a Scarlet by the end of 2011, and that's all I ask for.

From seeing footage from Epic-Ms (knowing the Scarlet 8x will be lower in quality but still amazing for the size and price) and seeing interviews with Ted and a working Scarlet 8X, these first few months of 2011 have been way more exciting than the last year for RED. I have a big smile on my face and it only gets bigger from here

"Right now it is impossible to predict dates on the removable lens Scarlet..."

Reading between the lines, that sounds to me a little like the removable Scarlet has been back-burnered just slightly.

"... our team is focusing to work on resolving the logistics and shortages for Epic-X and Scarlet 8x."

Which suggests to me that they're currently building (or trying to build) BOTH of those, right now; if Scarlet 8x wasn't in production, or about to go into production, they wouldn't be worried about logistics & shortages.

Which is encouraging if you want Scarlet 8x, not quite such good news if you're waiting for Scarlet Cine. At least that's how I read the runes. I think - well, hope - they'll be taking deposits for Scarlet 8x at NAB time, with first deliveries pretty soon after.

I reckon Scarlet 8x will fly off the shelves, and RED feel the same, and (shock! horror!) are trying to get ahead of the game by building up some inventory before taking orders. How about that? A RED camera you don't have to wait for, no backorders, you can just go buy it... :thumbup1:

They could sell more Scarlets in a MONTH than they have ever sold RED ONEs, total. That calls for production of a different order... hence the ex-Oakley wizard. Maybe RED should have a new motto... "Pixel shifting, up-rezzing, and back-ordering not spoken here"

<grins, ducks, and runs>

Right now it is impossible to predict dates on the removable lens Scarlet as there are so many variables in play and our team is focusing to work on resolving the logistics and shortages for Epic-X and Scarlet 8x. There are alot of "little" bits that come from Japan that have proven to be a bit of a shocker.. from the epoxy inside circuit boards to small components. Apart from prices of those parts doubling in price every few days, just getting them is going to be a constant battle.

We are doing our best to mitigate.. and we have found some creative ways to resolve, but right now its best to just keep your eye on here to see where we are, Jim is committed to letting you guys know when we know. Just please understand that since we are moving in realtime and posting updates in realtime, things can and likely will change as we move through the next month or two.

Jarred, is there anything we, as customers, can do?

Man, you guys have taken more hits than Rocky Balboa. I'm almost starting to feel badly for you...

So, just to clarify, will stage 3 upgrades start at NAB? I, so far, have not received an email for stage 3. Did I just miss it? Has it already been sent out. I only have an email from stage 2.
You have an email saying you have thirty days to pay for your Stage 2 camera?

would love to see david mullen with an epic-m

I would imagine he'd just have to pay the $58,000 USD for an Epic M like the rest of us who own one have, and he'd be in line for one.

------------

Thanks for the new updates Jim and Jarred...much appreciated :-)

Not sure he would want to buy one. I see David more like a hired assassin who will shoot your movie but expects you to provide the weapon and the ammunition.:smile5:

I'm thinking that all Stage 2 should be prepared for updates... Stage 3 should be pretty well enabled.

Jim

as if the lot of us weren't hounding this forum every other minute of our waking moments hehe:-P

I think David is saving his $$$ for the full-frame Epic :)

Sounds to me from the results Epic-M users are getting that it's more like an RC than a beta, and nobody should be that concerned about what is and isn't enabled at this particular moment, but even if it was an alpha, I would kill to be able to afford one.

I know it's an off-topic question but... Is RED planning on selling Scarlet through third party retailers? Do you guys have a word on that?

Someone may be able to correct me on this, but I seem to recall reading that there was talk at one time of them being sold by B&H?

A lot may have changed since then, even if my recollection isn't flaky...!

Was, its too much to deal with at first, maybe after a huge batch comes out they'll consider it.

I am looking forward to the FullFrame monstro myslef and I hope there will be the FF scarlet
I would be happy with Epic-X or Epic-S for a lifetime
but still curious of FF

maybe now it will be FF Epic-S

sorry, back on topic

Technically summer ends in September... so that means all Stage 2 and 3 should be shipped well before then. All orders placed at NAB will certainly be shipped before then.

Jim

Do we have to be at NAB to be able to place an order?
