  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another update...

Tim,

The only other thing we know for sure is that *EPIC-S* doesn't ship until EPIC-X stages & NAB orders are complete; I distinctly remember reading that. I don't see where you get point 4. above from; I don't recall ever seeing any suggestion that Scarlet wouldn't ship until after EPIC-S (or EPIC-X for that matter); Scarlet shares accessories but is otherwise a different beast, almost certainly a different production line, and is on its own schedule: 'end of summer'.

Mike

Yes Mike, end of summer was his last guess. Thats end of Q3 2011 i.e.e Sept 21/22 solstice. But Jarred's recent supply issues are outside of their control.. so as I also stated, its a moving target.

I for one am super grateful for the educated guesses and this highly sensitive informatuon from jarred.

This kind of service makes them the BEST CAMERA COMPANY on the PLANET.

and it will all be worth the wait. :cheers2:

What is needed to pre-order Epic? Pay in full?

Are you talking about EPIC-M? if your are accepted into the program, you need to pay in full and delivery is usually a week or two after full payment.

Right now it is impossible to predict dates on the removable lens Scarlet as there are so many variables in play and our team is focusing to work on resolving the logistics and shortages for Epic-X and Scarlet 8x. There are alot of "little" bits that come from Japan that have proven to be a bit of a shocker.. from the epoxy inside circuit boards to small components. Apart from prices of those parts doubling in price every few days, just getting them is going to be a constant battle.

We are doing our best to mitigate.. and we have found some creative ways to resolve, but right now its best to just keep your eye on here to see where we are, Jim is committed to letting you guys know when we know. Just please understand that since we are moving in realtime and posting updates in realtime, things can and likely will change as we move through the next month or two.

Thanks for this Jared. I follow some photography blogs and it seems that many of the camera manufacturers from Japan are scrambling to adjust and the blogs are encouraging people to buy products before shortages/price hikes ensue.

I respect your guys commitment to keep things as close to your original promise as possible, and understand that there will absolutely need to be some adjustment to timeframes, pricing and so on over the next couple months. Not just with Red, but across the board.

Hopefully things will be much more clear at NAB.

The only thing we can do is watch along and have patience, which your updates and communication make a heck of a lot easier.

Thanks again :)

Anthony

The tragedy in Japan and the challenges it has brought to producing the new EPICS and SCARLET's deserves a place in that book you're putting together.

Is Epic M closed, or are people still signing up?

Definitely not closed, and Red has said it will continue as long as there is a demand for it ...

"In the information age, the barriers [to entry into programming] just aren't there. The barriers are self imposed. If you want to set off and go develop some grand new thing, you don't need millions of dollars of capitalization. You need enough pizza and Diet Coke to stick in your refrigerator, a cheap PC to work on, and the dedication to go through with it.
We slept on floors. We waded across rivers."

Everytime I read this quote, that highlighted part makes me think of RED - doubly so now with Japan and how it is being handled :)

Still open and still taking orders for Epic-M. It is what we "know" right now.. and what we can make and are making. The demand is still very high for them, and we will continue to make them as people still want to buy them.

The only requirement for EPIC-M is understanding what you are getting into.. owners of EPIC-M are helping us test/enable/adjust the camera builds and reveal and test fixes for bugs, and giving us feedback as we turn each feature on one by one.

As you can see in the Epic-M owners thread a good chunk of our original customers have signed up for Epic-M, but we also have met a handful of "new to RED" customers through that program that have proven to be invaluable.

It is a bit of responsibility to be an Epic-M customer.. you are becoming part of the inner circle. That responsibility seems to be sure worth it.. just ask any one of them.

Where the heck did you hear that? Stop spreading FUD man. Why not just wait until NAB and hear what the update is then...

In the January 22nd update Jim said that Epic-Xs would ship in 'reasonable quantities' before NAB and now he has changed that to 'a few'. I have absolutely no problem with this, I understand that things change. A few months back Jim said a pessimistic ship date for the Scarlet 8x will be before the end of summer. In this thread he stated that there will be an update on the Scarlet 8x at NAB. Given that the other cameras are being "pushed back", I assume the Scarlet is being pushed back as well. Based on Jim's previous statements, this sounds like it would put it after summer.

I didn't "hear it" anywhere, that's why I said "it sounds like". Anyways...I understand that things change. I'm not angry, just disappointed.

Hi Jim,
I know this thread is principally 'Epic-y' , but is there any news of the progress of the Scarlet Interchangeable? Or is that info being held back until NAB?

wow - great update, wasn't expecting to see a comprehensive rundown - thanks, Jim!

my one question - you mentioned in the last update, RedRay ships in April - is that still on schedule, or is that currently being adjusted as well?

looking pretty good for at least one EPIC on my May/June production - I'll keep my fingers crossed for the second...

Thanks for this David - as always your keen eyes tend to pick up far more than mine and this post escaped me!

Hey Jarred- sorry to rehash my question, but I was misunderstood earlier.
When you gusy say a few Stage 2 Epic-X's will ship before NAB. Is there an estimate in quantity there that you guys are guessing?
10? 100? more or less?

Great news, i'm in for epic-x,
i just fill like the only one

also i hope that epic-x is a wild beast
