  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another update...

Hey david,

Could you post a pic of the 12-240 next to a ruler or something to give it some scale?

Don't have a picture handy, but it is 8"-9" long depending on focus setting, about 95mm diameter at the front element and weighs about 5.5 lbs.

Wonder what the price for that sweet titanium PL mount would be? I love the idea of a Scarlet M package. Don't know if I could afford it, but love the idea. With a mount robust enough to handle an Angenieux 12-240 sans lens supports it could be just the ticket for me. Could it perhaps be a way to introduce Scarlet sooner while working toward a resolution to the parts supply problem?

David,

If I remember right the Ti mount was going to be offered for $2500 upgrade.

Just wondering why orders for epics X weren't taken at NAB when Jim told us in the post below that they would be?

EPIC-Ms will continue to be made given that the parts and pieces are available. EPIC-M are not full featured... but have most of what you want.

EPIC-X Stage 2 will ship a few before NAB, production will continue after a slight delay due to Japan supply chain issues end of April. All features will not be available for early EPIC-X and upgrades will come as they are enabled.

All orders for Stage 2 and 3 will be shipped before summer's end 2011 (this year).

Order taken for EPIC-X at NAB will be shipped by summer's end.

EPIC-S will beging production as soon as EPIC-X orders are filled.

Hope this helps you with your planning...

Jim

The situation in Japan changed everything. I posted many times about this after your referenced post.

Mr Jannard, may a nobody make a suggestion?

I would very much like to see you publish a bi-monthly "State of RED" post in Recon section. Yes, like a "State of the Union" speech, outlining the current status of various projects -- naturally without divulging anything too important to your competition. By announcing a schedule for the post (for example, every second Friday at 8 Central) and sticking to it without fail, you'd bring a sense of stability and reliability to the forum, not to mention a steady flow of information to us forum-dwellers.

Thank you.

Jim does post often on many threads, but I sort of agree with Petri. I think it would be neat if we got a scheduled State of Red status report on the cameras every few weeks. It would keep everyone happy and excited. :thumbup1:

I posted this elsewhere, but Ted indicated on the Live RC Podcast that they wouldn't have hit the NAB target, regardless of the tragedy in Japan...

Which target are you talking about? If you are speaking of shipping EPIC-X, this is not true... either you are misquoting Ted or he had an out of body experience.

Jim

If I mis-understood, I apologize, but here was the exact quote "And even if this stuff in Japan didn't happen we may still would have struggled to hit those targets."

The RC Podcast Live@ The Post clip, around 35:40

Hmmm.... I think "struggled to hit" is a lot different from "wouldn't have hit".

File under mis-quote.

We struggle with everything we do... but EPIC-Xs are held up ONLY because of a handful of parts that originate from Japan.

Hey Jim,
Super excited for the Epic! Kinda been waiting with bated breath. I know it takes time and I know there have been delays caused by things out of everyone's control. But I was wondering, if you read this, are you going to be making some kind of public announcement when the first stage 2 Epic-X's go out? I'm sure we all have some planning to do for that glorious day when a 5K modular future camera arrives at our doorstep.
Thanks for all the transparency,
Andrew Nisinson
