  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hmmm, what do you guys think a used Epic Dragon brain + Side SSD module will sell for after Oct 11?

Dude seriously...the price is nice to go from 5K to 8K, I would expect quite a few orders :)

Can someone clarify: the Scarlet-W base I/O package stays the same (brain, AL canon mount, base I/O v-lock expander, mini-mag, 4.7" touch LCD, power adaptor, handle) correct? I think I read this upgrade just replaces the Scarlet-W brain with an Epic-W brain?
 
Can I still use my 120 gb minimag in the epic w? I know that I will only record 6 min in 8K in raw lol... But I dint think I will until I save for bigger minimags, just wonder if are the 120 compatible to shot at lower res like 5K in the Epic W..thanks
 
When the Epic-W goes live I'll probably fall 6 months back in the queue while I look into the slow-mo frame rates! Haha! The struggle is real!!! ��

Couldn't find an answer yet if the RedOne / DSMC1 deals will be trade ins or discounts and keep old body. Anybody spilled the beans on that yet?
 
I'm going to paint RED ONE on the side of my C300 mk2 and try and slip it through. Shhh.
 
Just a few questions about Scarlet Dragon owner options;
You can purchase a scarlet-W for a 2500$ discount if you have a 1K$ deposit in?
You can have a discount for an Epic-W? Is this a trade in? upgrade? keep your scarlet dragon like above? 10000$ discount?
For the scarlet dragon to epic-W way, on oct 11th is this just a deposit with your rep?
the stupidest question- to do this on Oct 11th, we can do it online red.com? can we call in? Say we dont have internet or phone that day do to a remote RED shoot is there any other way or day?

Hey Jarred, quick question. Do I need $10k available IMMEDIATELY on Oct. 11th if I'm a CURRENT S-W owner looking to upgrade to Epic-W? Or can I put a deposit down on the upgrade? With little under 3 weeks left, might be needing to sell a few things off if its the full amount :). My apologies if this has been answered in the previous pages, I'm popping in now and then. Cheers and thank you very much for your commitment to amazing customer service.

*edit* Just wanted to say it would be GREATLY appreciated if we didn't have to put the entire amount down. Either way, thanks again for taking care of us!

Is there confirmation that the Epic-W will be able to do 8K at 24fps? Is it possible that 8K will only be available at slower fps (like the Scarlet-MX could only do 5K at 12fps).
 
THIS IS CRAZY

I've been following along, but really just not worrying about all of this.

I've upgraded RED One>Red OneMX>Epic M>Epic M Dragon>Weapon Mg, and had multiple cameras through some of that path, and got a great deal on each the upgrades. I've had my Mg in hand for most of this year, and the accessory credit / media trade in etc., were so good that if someone had been waiting for a super long time and got a "better" deal to go to Helium/ Epic W because they had to wait so long, well that seems super nice for them, and totally fair to me. I've been well taken care of, a great deal for somebody else doesn't make my deal any worse right? So I'm thinking it's all good, and I'll upgrade again in October.

Then I read Jarred's post about RED One being included in the upgrade cycle. What?, errr What?

If I hear one more person question Obsolescence Obsolete after this I'm going to make them eat a fistful of bad clams and then send them out to shave off Ivan's beard, where they'll get their just deserts. (A shallow unmarked grave somewhere in northern Nevada)

There's a case in my storage space with a fair amount of dust on it that houses my old flame, I couldn't bear to part with her, but now... who knows... Maybe my Weapon Helium will get a new baby sister.

Did I mention THIS IS CRAZY!

That's a big one for me! Epic-MX owner here and if that $17.5k guess (a few pages ago) is in the ballpark that's a lot more than the original statement of "a bit more than $10k" for me. If I'd have to trade in my Epic-MX I'm likely to keep it and buy myself in the Scarlet-W line and pay the additional $10k from there to go Epic-W.
If we can keep our old brains (like back in the days with the upgrade from Red One to Red Epic) that would help as I have invested a lot in media and accessories for DSMC1.

- Epic-MX upgrade = $ ~17.5k
- Scarlet-W $10k + upgrade $10k = $20k

What would be my best option? I don't mind waiting as if I'd go the buy-new-Scarlet-W-plus-upgrade route and being all the way back in the waiting line. I'd still have a MX to shoot with or even sell it.

Damn, so many options...you guys are crazy (in a great way)!!

I need some enlightment here...

I'm an Epic Dragon owner. Purchased before the NAB deadline- September in fact. I really want to go 8K, but frame rates are equaly important for what I do.

Going Helium makes sense for me if I can keep the frame rates and of course the dynamic range and excelent low light performance of my LLO Epic Dragon.

Will I be able to upgrade to an 8K weapon that gives me the same versatility and performance of my beloved Dragon? While 8K looks attractive, I decided back in the early dsmc1 days to go Epic instead of scarlet because of frame rates- and I never regreted it. Went Dragon because trully believed on all the improvements.

Please Red give us a path to the equivalent of the mx to dragon upgrade- jump in resolution, keeping the frame rates. We know we need to pay for the body upgrade- but don't put us as those that didnt believe and left the bandwagon. We were never told that we needed to "jump!

Interesting point on the upgrade (send in) or upgrade (keep) current MX/Dragon etc - like the old Stages upgrade from the Red One.

Personally (Epic Dragon owner here) I don't think I can jump into any of the upgrades (as the media cost added to new accs would just take the price too high)... but, an upgrade that allows me to keep my current body would be very tempting - as I can build up gradually (getting new accs whilst I can still shoot on my current Dragon).

Maybe a tiered upgrade/trade in depending upon DSMC body? Obviously, Epic Dragon owners have paid more than Epic MX owners (who have probably ended up paying more than Red One etc), and Scarlet is less again... so hopefully there'll be a well thought out 'value' table for the upgrade process...

Let's hope for some (JPD) Jarred Pixie Dust to be liberally sprinkled for us old DSMC1 owners :)

Yea the media is a factor, but I think they still give credit for redmags towards price for 512, or 1 TB Mini Mags. And yes you are correct, it is not THAT much to get the minimal aks needed to run the camera. you could spend about a grand with an existing 5" touch and be able to run the new DSMC2.

Wondering if that upgrade path would have been made possible if no one had mentioned the Obsolescence promise?
 
Sorry guys but I tried to follow the thread. But a lot is about raven and scarlet.

Jarred, Brent: I have a Red Epic Dragon with a paid deposit for the Weapon MG upgrade. We wanted to do the upgrade this summer (after being allocated in the spring) but my bomb squad told me a few weeks ago to wait until they had more sensors in. What should I do? I want to upgrade to at least the Weapon MG. Should I wait until Oct 11th?

It was my understanding that they took the sensor from your Dragon camera and put it into the WMG body? So that sounds a little weird to me. The Weapon MG is still a Dragon camera. Previous in this thread they also said if your camera upgrade wasn't WIP on Oct. 11 you wouldn't be able to upgrade your camera to MG. After Oct. 11 no more MG upgrades since they stop making those cameras at that date.
