The Gentleman's Underwater Bubble Blower Thread

HI John and others
I just saw the Elephant 3D story with underwater and waterfall highlights using your 3D rig during the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival- Fantastic work
both on the film and the housing technology front!

All the best

We all know filmmaker extraordinaire Mauricio. He has a new Demo Reel. Great imagery combined with time lapse and fluorescent sequences makes an engaging expression of Mauricio's talents.

Note: Mauricio is *not* shooting on a Gates, but as one of the good guys I am pleased to promote his fine work and success.

Thank you very much John for promoting my work both here and on your gates page!
See you at DEMA!

Hey guys,
does anyone know a rental in Turkey or someone that has underwater housing for Red Dragon. It could be a splash one (just not the bag) as it will be used just a meter deep.
Cheers,
Uros

Hi all,

Anyone experience shooting Weapon u/w already?
H2O doesn't fit Weapon and no H2O "in the pipeline" yet.
So I'm wondering how W-Dragon behaves without H2O and which OLPF's (LL, ST or STD) would work best U/W.
Environments: Arctic, Tropical and Green (sub tropical).
Thanks for any thoughts :-)
Cheers,

Michael

i recently posted some teasers over on the Gates FB page about BENTHIC ONE and BENTHIC TWO. These are 1000m / 3200ft deep ocean cinema rigs based on the RED EPIC Dragon camera. Both systems are in service aboard NADIR, one of two subs tendered on the MV Alucia (www.AluciaProductions.com).

This was a really fun project, and an honor for Gates to be involved pushing the frontiers of underwater imaging.

Nice, can't wait to read / see more about what kind of images it has been capturing. congrats John !

Thanks Mikael. The project would not have been possible without your foolcontrol and your timely support. To quote one of the BBC cameraman: "The BENTHIC system is 1000% better than anything we've used in the past." He thought foolcontrol was simply magic.

How is the new H2O OLPF working? Is the magenta issue totally fixed?

In highly affected environments I wouldn't say "totally", but the improvement is huge.
A bit of a bummer the current (H2O) OLPF isn't compatible with Weapon and I haven't heard about a Weapon H2O-version yet (nor a Vista Vision).
Fingers crossed!

Hello friends and fellow shooters!

It has indeed been a while since I posted here, both for the obvious reasons and for taking time off to focus on other ventures, but I haven't lost track of all that goes on here. At least once a week I comb this thread and catch up with all the things you fine people have going. I come back with a couple of queries:

1- H20 OLPF. Is there any footage out there shot with it? If so, please point me to it. If any of you have any files, would you mind sending me a few raw frame grabs for me to analyze? I have a big project coming up next year and as I have sold all of my 4K gear, I need to buy some cameras again. I will consider RED certainly but only if I am certain the OLPF makes enough of an improvement. I am in no rush with this, but will appreciate any help I can get.

2- I am contemplating selling two of my scooters, Genesis 600 and Genesis 1200 respectively, in my mind, by far and bar none, the best underwater scooters ever made. But I was wondering if they would do well as rental items instead. I know that in the last 5 years, no other piece of gear elevated my filmmaking mojo to higher levels than the scooters, 4K, 5K, 6K and 8K cameras and better housings included. Thanks to Johnny Friday and his footage from Galapagos, I got on that train and have to say that I have been able to create shots I simply could not before, including filming in places where I just couldn't venture without the added safety of a towing machine that is also a moving camera platform. And, given the over abundance of drones and gimbals nowadays, which results in producers and viewers alike expecting lots of traveling shots, scooters allow the underwater equivalent of those long moving takes.
So, if I were to make those scooters (camera mounts included) available for rent to the members of this group at really reasonable prices, would that be of interest to you gentlemen?

Good typing with you all :-)

Welcome back Rudi!

Have Dragon 6K H2OLPF from Bora Bora, happy to shoot you some samples. I believe Michael Maes is the only one currently with H2OLPF from the dreaded, evil Cayman waters :-).

Glad to see you're back in the saddle, let me know what scooter rental rates you are considering, have some stuff in the works that may require them.

Hello Rudi!

Ron Lagerlof just returned from the Maldives with stunning clips of Manta aggregations. A short teaser is posted on his FB and Gates: https://www.facebook.com/gates.underwaterproducts. Shot with the 15mm Zeiss T* and H2O OLPF. Contact Ron directly, I suspect he'll share a few frame grabs.

Best regards Rudi. Will you be at DEMA next week?
