The Gentleman's Underwater Bubble Blower Thread

Thank you kindly. Please take a look at what's going on with our sharks.

Thank you kindly. Please take a look at what's going on with our sharks.

And the hits keep on coming!

Huge congrats to Frazier Nivens on bringing home two more Emmys!!

Well done Frazier!

Thanks Tom, John and Michael.

Tom, you picked the best photo on my page. Lol. Was a great evening out for us. Honored to be able to shoot with RED Digital Cinema cameras underwater and do what we love to do swim with sharks and amazing marine life, explore the beautiful reefs of the world. The production was a nice piece on sharks called "Feeding Frenzy".

I'm not sure if you all know about this or not but it's open season on sharks courtesy of NOAA, season opens up Jan 1st, 2016 for commercial fishing for them, each boat can take 36 per day and it's during the aggregation period when they collect. Apparently nothing has been learned over the years by us human beings and we continue to deplete, take and destroy not only our planet, but our ocean and it's marine life with reckless abandon. It will always be there for us right? Racing extinction. Don't think they were watching.

If you haven't signed the petition as of yet, please share this link, this was just announced on Nov. 30th, this year. We have over 11k signatures already but that's not enough. I'm not sure what NOAA is thinking. But there's nothing good about this. Fishing lobbyist wins.

I have emailed Silvia Earle to see if we can get her here to help us with maybe getting them to push the open date back to it's original July, she's in Paris today and her staff answered when I rang her cell phone said she couldn't come to the phone she was speaking at some conference there. I'm hoping she will help us and be spokesperson. Anyway they have decided already to do this everyone says, but if we do nothing and don't try then we accomplish nothing, but I say try is better than no try. There is only do.

Sign this thing and share, it's already global. The NOAA manager of this is:

Guy Dubeck, shark management, NOAA Fisheries, guy.dubeck@noaa.gov

Poor guy is getting the brunt of all this, slammed with emails, a lot of people are letting him know it's not ok. I'm hoping he shares that with his people who put all this in place.

A big congratulations to Frazier for his shark film win!
Thanks Tom for bringing the response from NOAA.

NOAA has just told us what they are going to do, when they are going to do it and that is that. Or we move forward with more pressure or we let this happen. 2 million a year? Shark sport diving, photography, film, charters, hotels, gear, and the simple inpiration that sharks give us is worth a lot more (someone please get these numbers). There is only one regulation that should be in place for sharks in coastal US waters and that is a complete ban on their taking for sport, commercial or otherwise. We are up against fear, ignorance, missinformation and good lobbyist. What will we do next?

It says NOAA only rules the 3 mile to 200 mile national coastal limits and the shoreline to 3 mile is state jurisdiction - how do we get to those people as well?

Here is a short film I just put together in protest of the new Jan 2016 NOAA regulations on commercial and sport Shark hunting.
Thank you Frazier for bringing this issue to my attention.
If you have a way of spreading the word through your own social media- please share and post.

Thanks for watching

All,

With recent firmware updates to the Dragon, some key mapping on the Amphibico Rouge has to be accomplished, here is a suggested map setup for best Swim n' Gun results, only takes twenty minutes or so to do.

Menu - Settings - Setup - Keys - Key Mapping - press individual keys on the Rouge to view/remap key function.

Also a good idea to save the map in presets, if you use different settings topside. Any suggestions for alternate mapping much appreciated.

Best

great tips tom..keep and eye open for used rouge housing in 2016..tkss

snip...

Still my opinion, and mine only, but Rouge in concert with Foolcontrol, provides an astonishing imaging capture system for underwater stuff, topside DP in full control....

Best to all.

Cheers and happy Xmas to all.

Fool control is amazing. And just to be clear fool control can be used with just about any housing using a cable penetrator or underwater connector.

For those not familiar:

"...access advanced camera configuration menu on complex rigs, across the world via IP, underwater wired to surface or in mid-air shots.

drive electronic photo lenses with great accuracy for super light, 'no external motor' setups.

control recording, frame rate, calibration map and more while operating.

control playback seamlessly from video village or whenever no touchscreen is attached to the camera.

set ISO, REDCode, Motion Mount mode, frame processing, shutter angle, monitor the histogram, timecode sync or last clip name.

create, save and recall camera look presets for quick on set pre-grading of each scene. On House of Cards s.3, Martin Alhgren used it to adjust on-set look without using external lut boxes. Color ready for dailies and post directly from .R3D metadata without adding a separate .rmd or lut file."

Truly amazing capabilities.

Yes foolcontrol is amazing. Just finished a job where I used it extensively. The subject was to shy to be filmed by a diver holding the housing. I set the housing up on a tripod underwater and pulled back a distance and controlled everything from my Mac. The results were somewhat static but at least we got some fantastic footage. We use the same system for our Dragon in side our towcam.

My best guess is, these creatures are juveniles seeking shallow water to avoid predation by the adult squids, said adults living in extreme depths reported to be 40 feet in length or more. Their primary predator is the Sperm Whale, the increased sightings may be a result of predator absence, something the Japanese may be responsible for, I hope not, if something sinister is in the works here, that could be very distressing..

I think Toyama, Japan, has an astonishing opportunity here, by dumping squid feed into the water, they may be able to achieve a semblance of the Bahamas shark feed experience, controversial I know, but how many divers would flock to a Giant Squid experience!

As with all cephalopods, they display extreme intelligence, any bets on Shark Week turning into Squid Week?
