  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Thank You.

No, thank **you** all! And a huge thank you to so many redusers too, who have helped me offline and on this forum. The learning continues. This next year is the one where everything hopefully comes together for me, and RED, and what it enabled, will be a key, key player in whatever good happens.

Thanks!

Jarred,

That was extremely well said. Thank you Jarred for your dedication to this amazing company and your hard work, without which none of this would exist. RED for life.

To all the 3rd parties that jumped aboard this crazy train and are making better things that we could ever dream of.... thank you.

Thank you Jarred for allowing 3rd party to jump on board the RED train the way you did in 2014...

Fast forward 3 years later it feels like other manufacturers are still struggling to understand what it's all about.

But fact is it was not just a small side door for 3rd party integration but, in pure RED style, a truly 'not fucking around' door opening !

Thanks again for the opportunity and support along this crazy roller coaster track ...

I was actually relived that the my Epic W upgrade path took back the accessory credit on the Scarlet W package, that would have been too good of a deal. I would have taken the deal, because I am no saint, but would have felt guilty about it and would rather have a healthy relationship were it's good for everybody. Let's see what I did get, $10,000 off, $2,350 back from trading in my SSDs, and I get to keep my Scarlet Dragon all because I had to wait, which wasn't hard as I already had a great camera.

Now I am getting a camera that I am pretty sure is 5 years ahead of the competition. Seriously, have you seen the other companies prototypes? What a mess, and we get in our hands a camera that is smaller and lighter than the small one that it is replacing, so crazy it defies logic. People tried to talk me out of upgrading. What do you need a 8k camera for, they asked? This has never been about need, but much more about desire and the rush of excellence. I will continue to make my weird little movies using the best tools available.

Thank you to the whole Red team for sacrificing to make this technology possible. You not only strived for greatness, you have achieved it. Take a moment to fully appreciate what you have accomplished, this rare.

You guys are amazing…no words to describe how much RED has changed my life and my career over the last 6 years!!

Thank you Jim, Jarred, Brent, Graeme, Matt, Michael K., Brian H., Erin, Sean R., Nate H., Kelly, Bree, Kris P., Kevin A., Travis S., Caiti, Nick, Clyde, James, Heather, and all the other RED warriors I know but might have missed!! You have never let me down. You guys are the absolute best in the whole freaking industry…I mean it…the best!!

Back when I first joined Reduser in late 2008, I was paying attn to Red because I wanted to start doing professional video and I understood the power of RAW.

So I thought I could save my pennies and maybe afford this:
scarlet-fixed.jpg

But when the Scarlet Fixed got nixed (and rightfully so), I began to realize I needed to dig deep and go big. So I purchased Epic-X #152.

After years of great performance from that workhorse, the Scarlet-W was announced. So I sold my Epic-X package for the same price that the Scarlet-W package cost. A painless upgrade... except for the wait.

But honestly, the wait wasn't as painful for me, because Red loaned me an Epic Dragon package FOR FREE... let me say that again. FOR FREE.

So today, next to me, is my brand new Epic-W, paid for with the same $10K that I had previously hoped to get my trusty Epic-X upgraded to Dragon. At the time of that upgrade window, I didn't have the funds. So in the end it actually worked out for me that I missed that window and was thus able to upgrade this week.

So from the dreams of a $3,750 2/3 sensor Scarlet Fixed (talk about crop factor) to an 8K S35 Epic-W at $10K below cost, yes, Red has taken very good care of me as a customer.

There are dozens of other in-between stories but you all have experienced those yourselves.

So Thanks Jarred and Brent and Dan and Jim... Thanks Red... and Thanks InnoCinema for being such a great dealer.

It's seems we are kinda entering the silver age for Red.
I'm glad I was golden enough to be a part of.

This remind of Jim's posts.

Thank you Red team for providing us better tools, listening to us, and always put users in front.

I just wanted to take a moment to say how much we appreciate you all.

RED is a weird company... we march to a different beat than most and we make decisions based off our family of customers rather than focusing on returns and stock prices and legacy and god forbid the direction of some random board of directors.

We started this all putting no-excuse tools that created the best images possible into the most amount of hands in an industry that seemed to be ok with "good enough".

Along the way we something magical happened... Something that Jim instilled deep in me early on... that our customers deserve to become part of that goal instead of just being a result of that goal.

The launch of Helium and Epic-W was an example of just that.

It started as an apology.

But it seemed to quickly turn into much more than that.

If you could see behind the curtain it was really incredible to watch. Our entire team came together not because their managers were yelling at them for being late or because of targets or the bottom line... they came together because they wanted to do right by all of you.. those of you waiting. and waiting. and waiting.

The wait we have made Scarlet-W and Raven and VV deposit owners really is traumatic for all of us. I honestly can see now why all the other companies that are late just seem to put their head in the sand and hide when things get late. It's hard.

And you can't just overcome those obstacles we did to make yesterday possible just by working hard.. you need to have passion. A lot of passion.
And the passion our team showed me over the last month leading to this was off-the charts incredible.

Weapon Helium and Epic-W turned out to be not just the two most badass cameras on the market... they are a stamp.
A stamp that goes beyond "good enough"... A stamp that says we all need to push further.

Not just about the technology.

About pushing this forward, together.

RED makes the tools for you to create the best images on the planet.

that.. I think we have succeeded.

But along the way we have let you guys down, as customers, As part of our family.

That is what yesterday was all about.

The upgrade options, the financing plans, the breaks on pricing... that's not what any company in their right mind would do when they already have more demand and backorders than they can handle and releasing something brand new that they should charge more for instead of discounting and pushing out at our own expense.

But it was the right thing to do.

We are not perfect. We still have a lot to learn. And yes, we will continue to stumble along the way.
I know we will never make everyone happy. But we will kill ourselves trying.
So thank you for putting up with the mayhem. I know it's hard for you sometimes to be a RED customer.

I also want to take a moment to thank my team.

You see... I am a hard boss to work for.

I literally spend more time with my customers than my own staff and spend way too much time sequestered away in my bunker tinkering and coming up with whats next, and when i do come out it is usually yelling guns blazing because one of our customers is suffering.

That's not easy to put up with.

Thank you all for putting up with me.

You all know how important Brent is.
But there are hundreds of other RED soldiers that live and die for what they do each and every day.
I hope most of you have had at least one experience with one of many RED employees that go above and beyond.

You don't last long here if you are looking for "normal".

Peter, our CRO, was a bit of a turning point for us. How I operate is usually diametrically opposed to what a CRO/CFO stands for.... Their job description dictates that they focus making the most money possible from each customer. That didn't work with Jim.. and it doesn't work for me.

But Peter came in with a different attitude. You as customers probably don't directly see his changes in the last few months... but trust me, they are meaningful.

And Engineering.... Uday and team are creating things that break all the rules. Helium is a smaller pixel with less noise. That goes against everything we are taught about sensors. Our sensor team is just that good.

Manufacturing.. My god. This launch we had more cameras finished to ship on day one than all our other day ones we have ever had... combined.

And not just Helium... This month we will ship 3x more Scarlet-W's than we did last month.

As I sit here typing this Matt is across from me putting design on yet again something incredible... way past his bed time.

There doesn't seem like there is ever a normal quitting time here at RED.. just like you all out there that work way past wrap shooting what needs to be shot...... we only go home when it's done.

Everyone else at RED. Thank you. From the little things to the big things. I might not spend as much time with you as I should.. but trust me I pay attention to what you do and you continue to teach me every day.

When we started, I took pretty much all of the product shots that we used. Not because I was any good.. Just because I loved doing it.
I still personally shoot most of the images I post, but Cleigh and the design and Propaganda team have gotten so much better than me that it almost pisses me off.
Im now looking at Cleigh's shots wondering how to copy him :)

You don't work at RED for the paycheck. It's a fucking roller coaster ride . You are here because it's what you love to do.

And nothing else should really matter.

To all the 3rd parties that jumped aboard this crazy train and are making better things that we could ever dream of.... thank you.

And to all the dealers that jumped on board yesterday... that was awesome.... thank you. This launch would not of been the same without you.

Most of all.. Thank you to all you, our customers.

I know along the way we have let some of you down. The waiting. The service missteps. The Janky little weird things we do sometimes that make no sense to anyone including ourselves.

We spent the last chapter making the the tools that we build better and learning better ways to build them.

Now it is time we focus on supporting you better, after the fact.

Better experience for our customers from every aspect.. big and small.

In the next few months you will hopefully see a better RED.

Things are changing. We refuse to rest, and we refuse to sit still.

Just know that we love this... We love what we do.

Good is never good enough.

(Sorry this post got a lot longer than it was in my head)

If you can just read one line.. it's the following:

Thank you.

Beautiful.

As I am known for (sometimes overly?) Long posts - I appreciate that its more than the usual one to two lines.

I think you know I'm not just sucking up here (I've called you out once or twice in the distant past) but you should give yourself some credit too.

Jim certainly got the ball rolling and was/is the heart and soul of Red but even in the beginning I think your Indy perspective and enthusiasm did a lot to guide the trajectory of the company, and since Jim backed away you have become just as much of the heart and soul.

Jarred, we appreciate everything you do for us. I, and my family, thank you! One of these days I will have to send some gifts to the office. I have been a bit busy this week expecting two new babies. My daughter, Mariana, and a new Epic-W!

Thanks Jarred for this heartwarming post. You guys are one exceptional company and I feel proud to be a customer of RED. I only recently joined the RED train, I did not expect so much heart going into not only the cameras, but the customer service. All of these updates and the community getting together towards one goal is just beautiful to see

I'm a bit late to this thread, but as someone who jumped instantly on the Scarlet-W and has been active on the forum during this long wait, I have to give a major thanks back to you and the team. I've seen other companies like BlackMagic and Convergent Design deal with delays and issues, I can't imagine how frustrating it is for the company as well as those of us waiting, but I've never seen anyone go as above and beyond as RED to keep us happy. The discount on the Epic-W gave me the opportunity to jump into a camera that I probably wouldn't have been able to justify at its original price. So not only has the discount given me a better camera than I thought I'd be able to buy but it puts me in a better position down the road for future RED upgrades.

My Epic-W is on the truck for delivery right now, my Wooden Camera cage built up and ready for the last remaining pieces... Very excited and happy with this whole outcome.

Again, thanks Jarred and Brent (and the whole team) and congratulations on the great launch of Helium!

Passion and vision starts at the top but takes a great team to execute... RED is running on all cylinders, It feels so special to be apart of all this! Love you guys!! Thank you!!
