If it returns to the owner, then it's fine & any repairs will be paid for by the owner not the renter. There is a big and obvious difference.

Stephen...You would be a great person to interview prior to the voir dire...

... as long as this lease-to-own thing ends today.

Deal?

Jarred, we love you guys...But this is just ridiculous beyond belief that it took Red so long to take a public position on this situation - especially in light of the fact that you DID know it was going on.

Can we please get back to shipping X...?

Congrats on the launch and good Labor Day holiday.

Congrats on the launch and good Labor Day holiday.

They did take a position on this, over a year ago when everyone agreed to the terms that we all saw posted on this thread today. They announced it again today, probably because now that they are shipping cameras, they have run into this issue and decided to remind everyone of the agreement.
Now, after seeing the amount of response, have decided to offer another form of grace on the whole amazing deal by spending their time and efforts to deal on a case by case basis on everyone's particular story.

And what makes anyone think that they need to "get back to" shipping Epics.
What is assumed has been happening? I'm sure they didn't all take the day off today to read this thread.

I would definitely like to say thank you to Everyone at Red, for doing business they way you do.
Thank you for an incredible upgrade opportunity from the best camera on the market, to the "next" Best camera on the market. And for allowing us to do so at a reduced price, from an already untouchably low cost!!!

I am stage 3, because at the time of the announcement, I didn't know if I would have the money for stage 2.
Obviously, if I had any idea what the actual roadmap of time would look like, I wouldve much rather kept my beloved Red One camera, and also done stage 2 Epic to have both of the most incredible pieces of equipment I will ever own.
But, I made my choice given my situation, and I am here to patiently await the arrival of my generously offered trade in to Epic!

As Jonathan stated.. we did take a public stance way back when.

We had a bit of a wake up call this week when we started calling customers for preparation of Epic-X deliveries and found out that they didn't have their RED ONES anymore and they had breached their Stage 2 Contracts.

A normal company would simply just void all those contracts, cancel their ability to enter Stage 2, and carry on with it. That's how business usually works... specially when there is a financial advantage to the company in doing so.

Stage 2

Stage 2

We will deal with this on a case-by-case basis. Those that contact us, explain their situation and take care of the the transfer of ownership the correct way, so we can update our records, will receive forgiveness.

All's cool.....as expected..:smile5:

You know, way back when, I spoke with my Bomb Squad rep and asked them about the conditions of Stage Two. It was pretty straightforward. But as usual, folks figure out a way around the system to their advantage. RED has every right to stay true to their word, it wasn't their fault that folks took advantage of them and they have no obligation to bend over, because they were straight shooters with us.

But yet again, they are going the extra mile for no reason other than to be magnanimous. The gravy train does stop folks and when it does, seems like everyone who didn't get on, starts whining. Reminds me of this Bob Newhart bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow0lr63y4Mw

I've been waiting 5 years for Red to act like a normal company. I thought when I read this thread "...here we go", and then you come back an find a way to go above and beyond for the community yet again. This is why I was so excited to finally become a Red OWNER this year and can't wait to buy an Epic in the coming year.

My sentiments exactly :)

We will never be normal. In that light, expect everything we have said about what's coming to change... :-)

I think there's a market for a pirate/freak flag with glowing RED eyes... I'd fly it on Ventura blvd outside my shop. Rock on!

Again, shockingly generous, you guys.

I never sold my 96MX but I have to say that the stance was pretty confusing, given the terms of stage 2 and the amount of sales or leases or whatever that were constantly in the "For Sale" section by people that were seemingly close to Red. Since it was happening on Red's forum, it looked like it was sanctioned.

I only watch 8 threads. It was a huge surprise to me.

So, what should happen is all those that did sell/lease their RedOne's, should at least go to the back of the stage 2 file, and only be shipped their epics when all stage 2 that did honor the commitment have been taken care of...or is this just a bad idea? I feel this would be the just thing to do. At least all of us that honored the commitment will also feel a bit vindicated. Is this just too much? And let's just get on with shipping Epics to all Stage 2 holders and forget about this.
Even better, how about more pictures of the assembly line? That would be great

Well you're the owner of a large camera company. Frankly, it's pretty amazing you ready anything on here. That said, it was going on, very publicly. I'm sure I wasn't the only one confused by it, and some did take action upon it. Usually anything that isn't ok with Red gets shut down pretty quickly.

Anyhow, my hat's off to you for finding sympathy in these cases. That's not what any other company would do. All these guys are your biggest fans and you're treating them as such. Well done.

... a great thing for those of us like me and you and many others who are crazy attached to our MXs yet ...

I actually find it a little odd.

I have owned many cameras over the past twelve years. Arriflex, Canons, Panasonic, Sony, etc. In order to buy the latest and greatest, I invariably need to sell the camera(s) that came before it. Not only do I have a knack for knowing when that time has come, but the act of saying goodbye has always been very easy for me. After all, it's just a camera ... right?

In stark contrast, I don't feel my Red One is even close to becoming obsolete. With the M-X sensor and SSD side module, the camera feels rejuvinated and it kicks some serious ass. On top of that, sentimentally, the camera really begins to grow on you.

I'm not entirely sure if it's something really special about the Red One ... or if it's just that I haven't had a chance own one as long as many of you.

Perhaps it's a healthy mixture of both.
