  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED WEAPON - Info and Data Sheets

Woah, thats a single regular RedVolt in the XL module, yeah?

Damn, this is one sexy beast!

I think i'm in love~

The Redvolt back is exactly what I was always begging for!
Now please make a lightweight charger with the same functionality - two Redvolts or one XL :)

EDIT: I know, probably the module is a charger ;) but still we'd need something off the camera at all times.... and the quad is a heavy beast...

The more I am looking at all the pics the more I believe that the top fans are actually intakes and the bottom rear is the exhaust. Three reasons for this:

1. The "hot surface / air" warning graphics on the bottom rear - the intake would not be hot. The same/similar graphics are now used for the current top fan...
2. You would not want to have hot air blowing on your hand while you hold the top handle (unless you are shooting in cold places LOL)...
3. From sound perspective - this would be the "quietest" configuration, as exhausts on the top are still rather audible...

I know logic dictates that better cooling is taking cool air from bellow and let the hot air out on top - and this is the only thing that makes me wonder about this. But for some reason the above three points keep bothering me more and more with every subsequent picture released. Maybe those warning graphics are there just to make sure people do not obstruct the intakes. But in that case I am not so sure about the hot air frying my hand on the top handle in warm(ish) locations...

Also I hope that there is another more compact option for HDMI or HD-SDI external monitoring. The Weapon's smaller shape combined with CF option is going to be a must-have for RC aerials. But if we have to add the (arguably bulky) port module just to be able to feed our wireless video transmitter - that would be rather counter-productive. If there is no industry standard video out (HD-SDI or HDMI) on the brain itself, it would be awesome to have a compact "monitor-out only" adapter to mount on the new top connector. Similar to the one that will allow us use the legacy RED monitor, but just with the HD/SDI (or HDMI) instead of the RED EVF/LCD LEMO...

Jarred, can two REDVolts be used at the same time on the new XL module (if you are able to answer that is)?

If they found a way to keep one redvolts stay put, it will undoubtably be able to keep two.

Yeah I have to imagine there will be "a" sidehandle, it's just most likely going to be an upgrade over the old one...

no doubt, I suspect the handle look will be one of the last big reveals... i bet its shaped more like a "weapon" with a "trigger".

I've really gotten into using the redmote to navigate the on screen menus;
my side handle has ended up more as a place for hot keys then for handling.

I hope for an awesome app for iphone to replace that functionality on VVeapon.
The new side controller looks frick'n rad. With those two control points, I'll be happy

I also hope a non-touch version of the new VVeapon display is made availible.

no just one ( there is only one terminal on the module side) Using a single REDVOLT is great for maintenance procedures or for quick stuff but it obviously doesnt lock in mechanically as well as a full size XL battery does back there so your best not to be jumping out of planes with that kinda setup.

Is it just coincidence that a picture of Brook and the subject of jumping out of planes with a Weapon came up at the same time??? ;-)

I'm just curious as to what us current Epic Dragon owners are gaining spec wise when upgrading to a non Vista Weapon. I know we get to continue down the path as it's the end of the line. But if I'm only getting pro-res and a slightly smaller/ cooler looking camera with a smidge better DR and Compression ratio's I don't see the logic to upgrade, unless you want to upgrade to the BIG sensor at some point. I don't know just late night blabbing on. Wish it was NAB so we could know wtf is happening lol
