  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE meets Mysterium-X

Looks promising.

I'd love to know if ISO 640 is the new 320, as well as what the dynamic range is coming in at.

Oh, and what was this recorded on to? A current CF Card, drive, or an unreleased media?

Good things are to come! :)

When the new sensor is out in public, I assume all the newly purchased Red Ones will come with it in the cam?

no.... It will always be an upgrade.

Last I heard the upgrade for the Red One was slated for $4,500- hopefully it will come in around that price point. :)

I have no idea on the trade in part of it.

Nice shot!

Does this mean an ASIC spin was done, or no ASICs in the Red One Mysterium-X?

I had no plan to upgrade my Red One, instead just to go straight to EpicX, do I smell a hinting that Red One Mysterium-X upgrade will come before EpicX? Hopefully not, I want to head straight to DSMC

I've been waffling back and forth- but I think I'm going to go the sensor upgrade route- so I hope this comes out first ... :)

Beautiful guys!

Will new sensors use more processing power? Will their be some compromises to the R1 with the new sensor vs. original R1 sensor?

We know that a few other companies are going to announce/release some new models. Trust me when I tell you they are still behind.

Something you're going to let us in on at IBC this year? :w00t:

I would guess not. Perhaps some of the supporting electronics, the A/D converters and sensor daughterboard my get swapped as a package. B ut I believe all the actual debayering, redcode complression, I/O, etc.. in the R1 remains FPGA based.

Likely a firware update to support it too.

Which will still mean long boot times, etc. Its a tough call but I am guessing that perhaps the RED One will get some but definitely not all the added benefits of Epic including FPS but I could be wrong and hope i am. If RED One doesn't get a FPS boost in 4K from the Sensor upgrade than I will go with Epic X when it arrives. Just the 2 sec boot times and 100FPS in 4K will make it worth it IMO. Of course, we also don't know yet what else we will need to purchase around the DSMC system to make it a go camera so that will play a part in the purchase vs. upgrade decision as well.

For the upgrade will we have to ship the cameras back to RED, of will it be something we can do our selves?

Will the sensor upgrade be out prior to EPIC-X and if so how will upgrading an R1 to Mysterium-X affect the upgrade credit/trade-in process to EPIC-X later?

thanks, this is gonna be a great end of the year!

We still are going through the usual Graeme magic to tune up the Compression while Jim goes through to tweak the color and I go through to try and break it all. We are much faster with that now from experience, but it still takes time.

I love this, have any one ever heard about the boss over at sony or panasonic or whoever of the big ones being passionately partaking in the finetuning of the colors in the new cams? Good for you Jim, and I dont have to ask you to keep that passion strong :) It is good for us too. Cant wait to see the new cams rolling out.

PS. Yes, yes, another fan-boy statement, but I am proud of being a RFB.

Unbelievable.

Jarred, I can't explain to you how amazing this will be for us. This is a MASSIVE game changer... MASSIVE... too big to describe!

I wonder if grading R3D's for 1920 horizontal will provide the same correction range as this smaller JPG has. More? Maybe someone with more grading experience can give me a pretty definite estimation.

Thank you so very much. I can't wait!

Is there a price target yet?
