  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE meets Mysterium-X

I'm continuously blown away every time I come on here.

RED1 upgrade is the next revolutionary thing that is coming up from RED Digital Cinema.

You should not be disappointed at all because it will be still far beyond any competition can reach that level of price/performance with new and revisited ISO, DR, and ...

We know that a few other companies are going to announce/release some new models. Trust me when I tell you they are still behind.

Jim

Also I could talk about that just starting with Canon 5DMKII, Panasonic DMS-GH1 to Panasonoc Varicam Type II, Viper Type II, SI-2K (3K, 4K...)

Sony F23, Sony F35, Arri D-21, Panavision Genesis or whatever is on right now or even tomorrow there in digital acquisition field at HD, 2K, 3k, 4k, 5K...

For about 5.000 USD per R1 camera upgrade you'll get a totally new beast.

Don't forget that R1 is DSMC already now>>>.

Tomorrow will be even more of that...

What else?

Scarlet?

Epic?

After Mysterium-X is improved and tested with RED1...

When the new sensor is out in public, I assume all the newly purchased Red Ones will come with it in the cam?

no.... It will always be an upgrade.

Sounds like the Red One will still be sold after the scarlet/epic is released. I'm just wondering if it will still have the $17.5k price tag though...
I know it has all the connections build-in vs. brain only - but it still seems like a lot of money when you can get a better (brain) for less :-/

The R1 will still be an incredible camera after the new releases, but this is keeping me from buying one right now.

...Jesus, did I say that? Or just think it? Was I talking? Did they hear me? :001_huh:

"Many Bothans died to bring Jim this information..."

Can you share any details, Jim?

lmao. we are all ears boys... :bigear:

Would you think me a complete Doofus if I asked why the image is 1920 x 4480?

Or is that a 4480 x 1920 sensor turned on its side?

But if so, why 1920 and not 2160?

Actually, with the right optical assembly you could shoot 1920 x 1080 (almost) 3-D on the same chip

A Maltese dog named Snowflake? My first dog was a Maltese named snowflake. I can't be judgmental of any picture with a Maltese named snowflake in it.

I abstain from all criticism. :D

Heh heh heh I'll tell my wife that she will love it... when she named Snowflake i remember her saying " I wonder how many other white maltese out there are named Snowflake? " :)

From a hardware standpoint we are getting there.. as you can see everything is inside the camera and the bits are all behaving as they should.

We still are going through the usual Graeme magic to tune up the Compression while Jim goes through to tweak the color and I go through to try and break it all. We are much faster with that now from experience, but it still takes time.

I know you guys have been waiting around for way too long with not alot of camera related news.. this hopefully shows that there indeed is a light at the end of the tunnel... on both the RED ONE upgrade and the key ingredient to the first DSMC cameras ( Mysterium-X )

It looks like we will soon have an announcement ?
Maybe at IBC ?

I will initiate that trend in Japan, too, then when you notice any Japanese person naming their Maltese as Snowfake then the trend started here.
