  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE meets Mysterium-X

Nice! Every tidbit means we're getting closer...

Was this a testbed/transmission-style RED ONE upgrade or is it more hardware-complete at this point? Any word on the new sensor's recordable resolutions?

Not to barrage with questions, but are we likely to see the RED ONE upgrade prior to an Epic or Scarlet release? Or am I just getting ahead of myself?

no noise reduction done whatsoever...

its amazing, just looking in the LCD the difference in noise is dramatic..

This sensor upgrade was done to one of my "normal" first RED ONEs that is now a day away from being exactly 2 years old.... all the great camera builds that have come and gone have always given me a new camera feeling, but this sure takes the cake.

We know that a few other companies are going to announce/release some new models. Trust me when I tell you they are still behind.

Jim

Way cool.
Was the cam tilted?

Yes tilted for Portrait.. if you guys havn't tried it yet.. I recommend giving it a go :)

These posts give me a better rush than most roller coasters. :D

Amazing!

Remember... we also promised a sensor upgrade for the R1.

RED ONE meets Mysterium-X (upgrade soon!!!)!!! :hurray: :cheers2: :emote_happyhappy:

Jarred,
Is this heralding the RedOne sensor upgrade is pretty close?

From a hardware standpoint we are getting there.. as you can see everything is inside the camera and the bits are all behaving as they should.

We still are going through the usual Graeme magic to tune up the Compression while Jim goes through to tweak the color and I go through to try and break it all. We are much faster with that now from experience, but it still takes time.

I know you guys have been waiting around for way too long with not alot of camera related news.. this hopefully shows that there indeed is a light at the end of the tunnel... on both the RED ONE upgrade and the key ingredient to the first DSMC cameras ( Mysterium-X )

Have you done any basic dynamic range estimates one this?

This is really amazing, I am looking real close and I can't see anything that is totally blown out. The white fur is just so perfectly detailed you can see every little hair even though he is like bleached Polar Bear white, yet you can still see the details in each one and tell it apart.

Then that deep black in the background... I mean it doesn't look that impressive, but the more I think about it, the more it's messing with my head. That is really amazing, and you're only just now getting the improved color science from it, right?

I can't imagine what it'll be like once you get the new color science perfectly calibrated for the new sensor. Probably asking to much, but is there a new debayering process that is going to have to be cooked up by the gang to take full advantage of it?

Also, think we'll see a 4.5K mode with the update...? I know it's annoying to keep having that asked around these parts, that'd just be really neat.

Wow, that image looks so, so clean! And this is the same sensor (albeit a different) as the one that's going to be in Scarlet!

Awesome stuff, you just made me way more excited than I already was!

Yeah Snowflake has her part in this too.. as fun as it is to shoot a cute little dog (ok maybe this frame isn't that cute) shooting a snow-white dog on a black background with a medium-hard light can be murder to cameras (and lenses).. little white hairs and all.

And yes the 4.5k is there with the R1 sensor upgrade.... this shot was shot in 4.5k..

Just so you guys can write it down.. another new ratio/pixel format for you to memorize:

4.5k = 4480x1920

anyone with better math skills wanna tell me what aspect ratio that is?

EDIT: 2.33:1? did I do that right? That would be sweet.

It looks amazing guys! I suppose an uncompressed TIFF would be too much to ask for?

Jarred,

what about some more portrait pictures something like a "model" that sitting on the left side at the photo (we can see a part of her beautiful legs)?
