(I saw a tweet pointing out two new RED registered trademarks:

CRIMSON: movie projector
HYDROGEN: Apparatus for capturing/transmission, and reproduction of images)

Crimson is known, but Hydrogen???

I tend to think last couple of posts are plausible; description of Hydrogen sounds like something Teradek would make.

But we already have the Meizler module and it's called Meizler... so what is Hydrogen? Some kind of breakout from the Meizler tech, a standalone 4/5K Teradek-type system? Or something bigger... "capturing/transmission, and reproduction" - some kind of end-to-end 4K broadcast solution?

hydrogen don't sound right as the baby version of crimson. Also fairly sure both have wireless built in as both have REDRay players built in.

Here is the pic.

The thing that creates all the noise in the fan is the round logo in the center. By doing it this way, you do, in fact dramatically reduce the amount of fan noise. It think it was Brian Goff who first posted this sort of solution. this is a pic of the one I designed and made.

It is noticeably quieter. I'd have to do a before and after video and I don't really have time for that. I just know that with this on the fan is much quieter (i don't know in db) but the fan is quiet, if you take the grill off you can hear how quiet the fan it. The logo is what causes a lot of the noise.

1> Dragon sensor installed in my EPIC.

2> REDRAY PROJECTOR, installed in my new screening/ coloring room.

3> ODEMAX to be real and to kick-ass in use with REDRAY. I'm not buying the Hobbit on Blu-Ray, dammit. I will watch it on my REDRAY PROJECTOR on a 12 foot wide screen.

Are you really sure of this??

It seems really odd to me that RED didn't test things out before choosing to put their Logo there... But... Things do happen, when some times what might be considered or better yet not even considered to be an issue inn t he noise level get's completely overlooked... Of course we can all use less fan noise when forced to use a higher level do to high ambient temperatures... So this will be interesting to see this 100% VERIFIED!!

I mena they did had different designs before choosing the current one.

When the circle is placed in front of the fan it creates a kind of vortex that increases the noise level of the fan. I'm sure someone with more physics knowledge could explain this better.

Again, this was initiated by Brian Goff at action products and then I build my own test grill to compare.

I can tell you what my ears tell me. The fan is much quieter in the test piece.

You can try it yourself, all you need is a screwdriver to remove the grill.

It's much quieter without the grill or with a grill without the round center.

I have not used this commercially but one can hear, that the RED stock grill is noisier.

I'm not knocking RED, they have to design with a lot of things in mind. I'm just repeating what my ears tell me and that is that the circle in front of a fan creates more noise.

Don't worry David, it was not meant as make it like your were knocking RED down... Just honestly curious about a proved result on this...

I could set up a test, but I don't want to make it seem like I am attacking RED or anything, I think a lot of people would like a quieter fan and if the solution comes out of this community (with RED creating an alternative or approving an alternative) like the flare gaurd thing, then I think everybody wins.

I just thought it was cool that it could be improved, but I would not want to do anything that would jeopardize a warranty or anything like that.

Hydrogen could be the wireless video tech in the Meizler module but for home cinema. I for one have no desire to run an HDMI cable to the ceiling if a super high quality, low latency streaming option was available.
