  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Mysterious SKULL

Am I the only one who thinks the photo's have been teased? Look at the start/stop button. Why is everything darkened but the square?

Are people missing the obvious bit that looks like it's a module that would go on the back of the camera? The pins don't really makes sense but there's that thick multipin port that you see between modules.

That is what I thought initially, but now I am thinking that edge might just be a stop for the OLPF. The multipin port on the rear of the body is flush. This edge you indicate on the mystery part stands proud. wouldn't that make it a no go for mating with all existing rear mounted modules?

As you say the pins don't make sense. Which set of pins looks like a closer match to you

or this

Also, the pins would be facing the back of the camera in a rear mount scenario, in which case the ports would be facing forward on the operator's side. What would they be used for?

If it mates with a module adapter the edge isn't a problem.

You can also see the pins in that protruding connector port as well that the inset on the end which would mate perfectly with the port on the camera body/module. It's definitely the same type of connection 100% and not a stop or piece of plastic. Perhaps there will be a new module adapter that this would interface with.

I am suprised that people show so much interest in super high speed. I love working with the Phantom camera as footage can be magic at 1000fps BUT the reality of day to day commercial shooting is you just don't need these speeds. When I do need slow motion its generally between 50fps and 200fps. While it might be cool if the Dragon could go to higher speeds I just don't think its that useful for general production although for many specialised areas it may be worth it.

I'm not clear which direction you are suggesting it might mount and what these connectors would mate to. These connectors would mate to the back of the camera directly, pins to pins, female to female or would the pins on this mystery part face rear leaving the angled ports on the edge facing forward on the operator's side?

So this flat thing with same sort of pins that sits behind the lens mount... could it be a true global shutter thingy?

Just going by the "bulky port" the only way it would fit would be onto the back of the camera body or another module.

*I think people are also making the assumption that the "leaked" images are of the same product. I do not believe this is the case.

skullduggery

Do not understand this obsession with the dead. My goal is to set a new record for longevity so dead or death is anathema to me.

Skulls often don't represent the same meaning to everybody.

For the artist, it has been said through generations of illustrators and painters that once you've mastered drawing the skull to the point where you can do it from imagination there is nothing you can't achieve. For many this is the reason they keep a skull in their studios.

For us as a civilization we uncover the skeletal remains to learn and unlock history's story about a time long before. The skull merely provides an abyssal gaze that produces wonderment of how things might have been for keeper of that structure. Great minds or mere peasants, or perhaps that which we don't even know, it certainly creates curiosity.

For us as humans it might be a hollow visage that generates fear or even instills a deeper understanding of our own mortality.

Skulls can be considered dark subject matter, but occasionally we must explore the darkness to seek out the light.

For my own purposes, my logo is the "deconstructed" image of a painting I did about a decade and a half ago that provided a great deal of visibility early on in my career.

For Red and Red Cameras we refer to our camera bodies as the camera "brain". And given what we know about what a brain might be and potentially where it should go that certainly produces a few questions.

But the real question here is are we looking at one "thing" or several? Or pieces from a larger puzzle? And there's certainly more to the silhouettes and shapes than meets the eye.

1000 fps @ 6K with a global shutter and ND wheel built in with a prores module with 4k outs on the side. Not only would this increase sales of Dragon, it would open it up to all kinds of jobs other cameras were usually chosen for. The most versatile camera on the planet. Now that has a nice ring to it...

Imagine owning the ONE camera that does it all!! Oh you need 1000fps, go Dragon. Need a small camera for a gimbal that can also do high speed, Dragon. Need 4K prores out of cam, Dragon. Need to monitor 4K out of Dragon without additional modules, Dragon. Want it all in one cam, Dragon! That would be HUGE..

Like others have mentioned, these look like 3 different components possibly that connect to a newer slimmer body. Guess we will see..

Bring it on Phil we know that you know better than all!

It's the RED Apocalypse button. Fortunately, the engineers had the foresight to add "stop" functionality.

I think all of these teaser photos are of different things.

So now I think we will have to wait for NAB for all the goodies to be unveiled. #dammitall.

Or an April fools button, when people press the button and their upgraded brains falls apart :) (shortly followed by their users brains falling to bits). Even if they avoid pressing the button, their brains don't work anyway, as the engineers tested it before delivery and just slapped the bits back in the case afterwards (which explains the rattle feature). :)

Party pooper, hmmf!

Beat that for a party trick Jarred!

Never tell a comedy writer he's a party pooper :)

Anyway, you guys would have got copies of these images. Hasn't anybody tried to run some artificial refocus software on them to bring the blurred out details into focus and see what other clues are there. Also, let's assume they might be using a second prototype to film this one, so that the image qualities of the pictures might reveal something (now people at Red are going to start thinking).

Redshark has some articles on refocus software.

Is it feasible do you think that Red is adding this multi-port or "bulky port" to the front of the camera too? Would passing that through a new lens mount be useful for anything? Synching 3-D rigs, or front mounting new modules?

Just going by the "bulky port" the only way it would fit would be onto the back of the camera body or another module.

Well maybe they are, so you can mount the modules on the front and the lenns on the sensor and lens on the back, for the ultimate selfie shots :)

As you say, skulls mean different things to different people. To me it is the warning on a bottle of poison... the ornament on the staff of a cannibal... the remains of the long dead in a desert... the dark side. But perhaps the skull is a fitting symbol. From watching the news, both here and abroad, maybe these are the beginnings of dark times.

Here's some new leaked images of the module.

Apparantly comes with its own AI

Maybe this replaces the Motion mount .....

A global shutter that can work at at much higher frame rate perhaps ...

The back of which has an extra pin to keep Goldilocks happy?

AJ

If so, I hope those of us who bought Motion Mounts would get some love. $3,900 per mount has not paid off the way I had hoped.
