  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Official NAB announcements...

What is so amazing:))? Why are you so glad? That we wiil get our Epics in 2012? Is it so amazing?:))) I see a big problems with Epics and Scarlets and everybodies so happy!:)) Tha main thing now is clearification!
The delay becouse of Japan is a big problem but.. not indeed! I am sure RED TEAM will find the way out in 4,5,6 month. The delau in 6-9 month is not a big problem. Bit the supply chain is the only problem before release Epic-X and Epic-S? Or RED TEAN are going to change specifications of Epic-X and Epic-S or something Like that? For example: Epic-X and Epic-S will be realesed after desilve problems with supply chain and will bw relesed with MX-sensor? And Then aftre it will be shipped somewhen in 2012 these shipped camers will be upgrade for Dragon Sensor?

You need to read Jim's signature... these delays should almost be expected with a fast paced, ground breaking company such as Red.

Thanks Jim, this is Big News. It sets the record straight on where you guys are at and what is possible. You can't fault natural disasters. Glad to see alternative suppliers are being found quickly.

ONE MAJOR QUESTION if you can please answer; if supply chain affect the Epic X and 8x, is there anyway to put priority on the 2/3 detachable and get it out the door first??? Is this possible or desirable?

It can help bottle necks, plus really help us indie and TV guys who can use Canon and Nikon lens or your mini primes. I'll for sure follow up with fixed purchase when they are ready.

Any official announement on the Stage 2 package? It would be great to know exactly what we'll be getting for how much. The possible variables I thought were going to be cleared up at NAB were:

-Upgrade price to SSD rather than CF card reader
-Upgrade price for the Pro I/O module rather than standard one

Thanks for the official announcements, Jim. The "unofficial" ones drive me crazy.

The RED Both at NAB this year was filled with a surreal energy... LOVED IT!!

Sorry had to take off so fast on the very first day, but I felt that my body had taken al that it could after such demanding tEpic American Tour... ;(

We understand the delays and love the new toys, and of course RED DRAGON is well received and our EPIC M8 will be proud to have it.. ;)

I know some will say its easy for us to be patient since we already have an EPIC M, but we have a STUDIO to fill with cameras, and a 3D rigs
to set up, so we are also awaiting delivery of more EPIC M's and X's, so we too are greatly effected by the de;ays, however I am a Humanitarian
and fully understand the scale of what it is happening in Japan, and don't cry about delays while thousands of people have died and 100's of
thousand are missing, while an entire country continues to suffer.

We wish Japan the absolute warmest of heart felt fast recovery and hope the world continues to buy form Japan and assist with their recovery.

RED, has yet set new bench marks with their announcements and RED DRAGON will be yet an other proof of were RED is going, congrats to you all.... Can't wait!!

Some of you guys crack me up.

thanks for the edit, Jarred :)

and for the player? internal drive also? slots look like FW connector + CF card

yes , internal drive. Network/Wifi.

The "future" physical delivery format for film delivery seems to be not physical at all.

Some of you guys crack me up.

Glad I could make you laugh. I'm not sure why though? It's a straightforward question. The 2/3 detachable is the camera I'm craving, and it has been the camera with the least news!

The amazing thing about the RedRay is that one can generate a 4K master.

Now all we need is Avid to open up the resolutions in Symphony Nitris to beyond 4:4:4 1080P.

Playback with 12 channels of audio out to a Sony HDSR VTR means I don't have to buy one at 100K. I can take my RedRay to a post house that has an SR and say, "please generate my 1080 submaster".

And as Jarred said fully DCP compliant...this is huge. Like the R1 did to spur R&D among the competitors, the same will now happen on the delivery side...then you have a 4K projector. Sweetness.

We have not and will not post the size and specs of the RED Dragon sensor until we are ready to ship. We are no longer interested to telegraph our roadmap to our competitors. I will say that the RED Dragon is significant.

Jim

Well done!!

Thanks for the info directly from RED. There is so much noise on this forum, its a real turn off.

Thank you for Dragon and I cant wait to hear more about the projector. Will say please think more small room DI suite then consumer home theatre, in my mind RED are pro all the way and a high end projector designed for small venue's (grading suites) would be fantastic compared to the large venue (need a separate room & 5 people to left it) projectors out there.

Thanks for being such hard workers and having the passion to push forward and smash down doors.

6. REDray Professional is scheduled to ship in June. Price to be announced prior to shipping. Well under $10K. REDray consumer in 2012 under $1000.
Jim

This is awesome!! Like the fact that you have consumer version.

Point taken entirely; a prudent move.

For those who don't know what developing such silicon entails, I'm still gobsmacked that a small company, even one with the resources of RED, can take on this work - and so should everyone be.

Thanks for the updates.

(OT: Jim, I forgot to tell you at NAB. I'm going to Land Rover in Solihull in couple of weeks or so, they're letting me have a look at the fully tricked-out, finished interior Judge Dredd they have in their museum. Will shoot a bunch of pics and let you know where to find them, just in case...)

Thanks for the update Jim,

This is the kind of transparent information that does help temper our expectations and brings them into a realistic understanding of what is coming.

I haven't posted much but I do want to communicate that what you guys are doing is truly stunning and is very much appreciated.
Looking forward to more of your dreams becoming reality.

Thanks so much for giving us this piece of information, exactly what we need for now. I hope to become an Epic-S customer as soon as it becomes available to jump my company's production quality and to rent it out, but I have one question that others seem to be asking as well:
Will Epic-S have an upgrade path to Dragon at some point in the future? If not, I might think it makes sense to many Epic-S customers to move up their purchases to the Epic-X. I know you didn't specify the Epic-S on the beginning of thread, but if you could clarify it would be much appreciated.

Thank you for all the hard work and incredible creativity!
My heart is with the crisis in Japan.

Thanks

Thanks Jim, and I understand not revealing the details in advance from now on. One thing that's clear from the various biased articles we've seen ... it's not just that companies Sony have or will look at what you're doing and adjust their goals and products (often with more resources to produce things quickly) -- but even more dangerous may be the power of their marketing and PR muscle, giving them the ability to take what you've done (or doing) and give people the impression it was THEIR idea.

I'm in marketing, and trust me I know that perception is everything. Also, the person who is "first" has a huge advantage -- but it's only if the majority of people in the marketplace know it and believe them to be first. The positioning of "first" can be stolen, it has in many other markets by larger companies who see an opportunity and take it. I believe that Sony seemingly trying to give people the impression that 4k was their idea, their vision all along is an example of this. Fortunately, Red has gotten enough exposure and coverage for this not to happen. But still, you see pockets of people who believe the misinformation and distortions of truth.

I love dreaming and getting excited about future stuff, but more than that I want Red to keep pushing the envelope and growing ... ultimately I will gladly sacrifice knowing details in advance to be part of something as magical and radically different as Red.

Keep up the great work and let us know whatever it makes sense for us to know.

Alright, gotta board my flight -- look forward to finally meeting you this afternoon at the booth! :)

Alexey, please don't worry about the camera.

Buy the best camera you can afford now. Make a movie. Sell it when the EPIC-S is available.
