  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Official NAB announcements...

1. The situation in Japan has affected us, along with the rest of the industry. We are like ants looking for an alternate route to the sugar. It is affecting EPIC-X and Scarlet 8X the most. We can't give specific dates because we are in line for parts from alternate suppliers along with everyone else. We do know that we are sitting here with a ton of inventory of parts and pieces ready to roll and the latest it could possibly be to get EPIC-X in production is June. We are trying for sooner. Even if we begin production in June, we think we can clear all orders by end of summer. We have purchased, at great expense, parts to make EPIC-Ms... and are ramping up production again on this model.

2. We announced the RED Dragon. It is of the Monstro family and is scheduled to be released in 2012. The significance of this sensor is that it is an upgrade to the current EPIC-X and EPIC-M and not a new brain. Obsolescence obsolete is alive.

3. We have shown the iPad "Mission Control" application.

4. We are working on a home 4K laser projector.

5. There is a new REDCINE-X to be released this week with Rocket support for EPIC and a ton of new features. N/C as always.

6. REDray Professional is scheduled to ship in June. Price to be announced prior to shipping. Well under $10K. REDray consumer in 2012 under $1000.

The uncertainty of supply chain weighs heavily on us. As paralyzed as we feel, we acknowledge that there are many others in Japan that continue to suffer unthinkable pain and consequences. The news is now diverting away from Japan, but the significance of the situation does not track with the news. It continues to be unimaginable.

Thanks to all of our customers for your support and patience. What we are attempting to do is unprecedented in any industry. We are swinging for the fences. Apparently, we are beginning to inspire others to step up their game. We like that. But we still are continuing to stretch towards the impossible for our customers and supporters.

Jim

Jim,

Thanks for the updates. Although I couldn't make NAB this year, the information that has come out from those that are there is that you are still pushing the envelope. RED Dragon is a great move and I welcome the upgrade when it becomes available. iPad Application looks cool and another useful tool. 4K Laser Projector - great news on this. I would take that this would be color accurate and thus, would you expect that this could allow accurate color grading? REDray professional - great news, especially when working with Red 4k Laser Projector.

As for the "Japan Effect" - totally understandable and I for one, welcome the update. Given that you say you have the production line ready to rock'n'roll and that the latest you could expect to go into production is June is amazing and I know that the entire RED team will be working on securing those vital components to make that possible.

Keep smiling Jim, some of us appreciate what you are doing - your vacation is just around the corner!

Steve

Cool shirts in promotion of the "Dragon" sensor (the first in the lineup of Monstro sensor technology)...

The Dragon is to EPIC what the MX is to the RED One. Upgrade your EPIC from an M-X sensor to the Dragon sensor

RED announces collaboration with BandPro and the event of "spreading its wings". A special kit of 5 Leica lenses for EPIC owners with undetermined focal lengths and prices. It will not affect current backorders for pre-existing Leica customers as it is a "side project"

It seems hollow to post now about EPIC-S specs until we recover from the supply chain issues and get production rolling. EPIC-S comes after EPIC-X. The frame rates and date rates are less, as is the price.

Jim

The best deal is Epic-S with RED Dragon very lowlight capable new RED sensor.

That means a filmmaker RED dream camera called EPIC-S could finally come sometime in 2012.

Are my predictions always true or are there times when they aren't 100% correct?

ok, so were can i order my EPIC-X, and please more info about this 4K laser projector, let's call it the "Dragon Fire"
you guys are crazy good !

Someone from RED may correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure RED Dragon will NOT work in the Epic-S.

nah your right, from the first post by Jannard

so M and X only

edit:
given things around here are always subject to change...

I seriously doubt EPIC-S will contain the Dragon. However, that has neither been confirmed or denied.

I also speculate that the additional length on the EPIC brain was implemented due to the forward thinking of the Dragon.

I am waiting to order EPIC-X as well, where can I place my order and pay the deposit?

Dragon makes me very happy! :hurray:
It is good to know, that I am investing my money in a futute upgradable product.

Thank you for the very customer friendly and future-oriented way of working!

This is the RED I love - pro-active instead of reactive.

And here I thought REDRay shipping was going to be the BIG news - and you're slipping it in there at #6. Shipping in June. That is gonna be another huge landmark.

Mission Control looks very cool. And I am very psyched for a Monstro upgrade path. I don't think news like that will really sink in, so to speak, until we are running around with our EPIC-X cameras. EPIC-X already seems beyond most of my dreams for a perfect imaging machine. It isn't easy to imagine more. I count on the RED team to push me to think well beyond what is possible. Thanks for the clarifying update.

Guys, keep in mind that revenue-wise EPIC-S only with RED Dragon sensor is the future for RED.

That means $15.000 5K camera that can shoot amazingly clean high ISO @ lowlight and has speed from 1-60 fps.

If you would need more speed frames than ask for Epic-M.

The significance of this sensor is that it is an upgrade to the current EPIC-X and EPIC-M and not a new brain.

The original post only mentions -X and -M...nothing about -S. Although I would hesitate to take anything too literally, and everything is subject to change. Seems pretty clear for the moment, though

Come on man. Seriously? Predicting the future based solely on the "name" of a sensor? Hehe. I guess that's a bit of a stretch for me....
