  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New CS5 Support

That's pretty exciting... But regarding the RAW setting, I don't get it... In PPro, you can choose color version 1 or 2 (I assume it's about what the RED guys call "new color science"), and I saw that you now have access to shadow and the FLUT setting... I was waiting for that one, and that's awesome...

But what about AFX... I 'm not sure to understand the process. The RAW setting panel is still the same old one, and does not match the new PPro one... So what happen if importing a PPro timeline in AFX, when using color version 2?

I just installed the update tonight, and saw that AFX was not part of this new game, but I don't have time to run tests today since I gat to work...:)

Please, if someone can let me know...

Anyway, to quote Mohammed: we are having fun with adobe!

Those of you with questions about it could just download the demo version of Premiere. Apparently it seems that the 5.0.2 update can be installed into the demo and allow you to play with the R3D support.

I think this old AE CS5 panel uses version 2 as the new one you already have FLUT control in the old panel.. the idea is the panel itself, RMD support and the ability to use red rocket.. so settings you have done in Pr can be readable in AE via saving presets.. but not all RCx settings like lift/gamma/gain.. only in Pr until they release an update for AE..

Julien, guess you have the old plugin in AFX, there is a newer one with new color science that is available on the labs/adobe website since a few weeks. You can use Colorscience Version 1 or 2 in AFX

Using RMD from Redcine-X as first light is a huge step especially for whitebalancing, great!
I would like to update, , but having a longform project, I want to know if I don´t mess up my old (source settings)-adjustments with the update.
If anyone who already has installed the update could have a look at older projects, if there are changes in the sourcesettings.

thanks

no way buddy.. its a general rule.. never update till you finish running projects..

from experience your source settings won't go away.. but, wait till you finish if you already done your source settings and having AE involved..

Ha ha ... Mohammed that was a good one, RED One from Build 14 to build 30 learned me the other way... :-)

No, off course you are right, but unfortunately the project needs another half a year, besides other parallel projects.
Struggling with the source settings now without correct whitbalancing no histogram or waveform is pretty annoying...

anyway thanks four your advice.

There seem to be no problem going to version 5.0.2 from the previous one. You have all the same controls as in version 5.0.1 and the existing files in the timeline of your curren 5.0.1 PPro project will not be updated with the RMD metadata unless you click to make such a choice. Furthermore, if for some reason you want to roll back, you can always delete the RMD file from the folder that contains the R3D-files.

thanks Lauri.

how many tracks? app respnonse? does the rocket output work while you adjust source settings?
can you make a screen capture to preview what's happening with the rocket? I know this too much to ask.. but, if you are willing to do so, its much appreciated..

Thanks

Rocket out doesn't work but I think the excellent Dave Helmly has done some cool demos with Rocket and output from NVidea. Not sure if he has posted yet. I am just back from vacation and catching up.

David, if in PPro I have a Red 1K sequence and both 4K and 2K R3D-files, then import to AE using Adobe dynamic link, and then export from AE, it seems the 2K files are not processed with full 2K resolution. Is this the case? And if so, is it possible to add in PPro source settings window some switch that forced the export to process using full resolution?

well Alex, as the AE update is now out.. you may give it a try (with caution).. while you still have to deal with source settings a lot.. you'll enjoy doing them in RCX..

I'll check Dave's Blog..
I have a question: why not Rocket output support? is it a huge technical difficulty? or it is because Rocket only supports R3D output and not from the Pr engine? even it only works while you adjust the source settings it would be amazing as there is no big monitoring option while you're adjusting the source settings for the R3Ds..

I have to agree with Mo.... Rocket output would be huge!

So, in what way does 5.02 support RR? I can choose to use RR but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. As matter of fact, I could boot REDCINE-X in the background with RR support on.

We are looking into these types of issues now... Will keep you updated...
