  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

more renders...

Jim has said a number of times that the new sensors have a read reset times equivalent to a film camera shutter and so will have no more rolling shutter issues than film cameras do.

Well that is awesome. I just get more and more excited about the cool things RED is doing every day.

Jim, what you have done is truly incredible. I feel like I owe you a lot for making a camera like this, I can finally carry just ONE camera with me when I go overseas, instead of a D300 and an XH-A1, which can get very bulky very fast.

Hey Jim and Jarred, can you please show us a rendering of the version of Scarlet that is ready to shoot out of the box, that comes with built-in viewfinder, 2 xlr outputs, firewire output , fixed lens and comes with one battery? Do you have that rendering yet?
Im super stoked to see that rendering and I know you wont let us smaller budget cinematographers down!

I think most people are assuming this is the fixed lens Scarlet:

This looks great as long as it has 2 xlr outputs, fire-wire output, comes with one of their low end batteries and the cable to make that viewfinder work without paying extra or as an add on.
Im sure Jim wont let us down since he hasn't so far.
He knows that if he gave us a Scarlet that we had to buy all these add ons that normally come standard with an HVX200 or Sony EX1 or what not, then we would be really bummed and probably be out of the 3k ready out of the box price range that was promised.

Hey I just noticed your site says http://redcameranetwork.com and it looks like you link a lot of the stuff from this site on your? That's cool that Jim gave you permission to use the RED trademark in your site. I thought he put a stop to that stuff?

so, I guess the big question is....reservations at or before NAB?

Actually, after all the "shiny" requests, Scarlets and EPICs will come standard with gleaming polished chrome bodies....
Jim

And hopefully a polishing pad. I thought stainless steel refrigerators attracted a lot of fingerprints, but a chrome camera that would be the end of cleanliness. But let's all note, Apple uses this same marketing technique.

Thank you for answering my question Jim..Can't wait for NAB.:shifty: Hmmm the line maybe pretty long at your booth...Are you guy going to get a bigger booth this year? hehe:construction:

cheer

No "big company" sees us as a threat... since we are a scam. Any offer would be refused.

There should be a working model at NAB as well as footage.

No IPO in the works.

AVID is working on native r3d support now.

Jim

I will be going to NAB this year! Finally avid is going native r3d. I remember talking to the avid guys back in the summer and he was very adamant about working with red for avid support and how the Apple guys are doing nothing. Now it's finally going to happen!

Can't wait till 3rd and NAB.

Wow, that would be really great. A Red workflow then wouldn't necessarily require a $4000 MacPro. I can stick with a much less expensive, yet certainly comparable, suped-up PC with the familiar workflow of Avid.

It's too good to be true.

It's too good to be true.

Hmmm is this EPIC/scarlet story a dream, a hoax similar to OW's mars attacks? I mean, it's kind of easy for you OVER THERE (america, w.europe) to get your toys...us in the eastern Europe(Croatia) we need to pay sony's BC ripoff same price you do. But our workprices are ...well 3-5 times cheaper...and still we use same equipment. Looking into RED story made me think think think think ... in the meentime one company in Croatia got their hande on few REDONEs trying to fit them into daily soap production. Main problem is the storage and postproduction since it's an everyday multicam shooting tons of material ... errrr
When Canon announced their 5D mark II , well I smiled for days, like kid that awaits new toy ... and still ...that toy NEVER CAME to the stores !
So it's really hard to look at your TOYS and not being able to get-buy-rent them anywhere...for a year ??? I'll grow up in the meentime !:waaa:

To the Red Team Ambidextrous Design

To the Red Team Ambidextrous Design

Sorry for coming so late to this party
Don't mean to hijack, but it looks as if this is where everybody's dreams are voiced
This is all coming from a Still Photographer
But one who has been waiting for the merging of the two mediums for a long while
In the corse of camera design their have been very few that one could use either handed
With the module design that you are presenting I am hoping that there will be a Left Handed Control Module
I recognize that because of smaller production runs it might be a higher price but for those who need it we would be willing to pay
I already struggle with some level of Arthritis in my right hand so being able to use a camera Left Handed would be a dream
Second
On Sensor Format
Again coming from a Still Photographer
How might you handle Vertical and Horizontal orientation of the camera
For the Cinematographer I realize that Format orientation is not an issue
But for the Still Photographer a camera should handle in both orientations equally well
Or the Rectangle Sensor should rotate with in the camera
If I may be so bold as to offer a few suggestions
A Square Sensor would be my choice with digital Masking
Still and Motion would be allowed in the Format of choice on the fly
The camera can then be designed and outfitted to handle the best in a single orientation
Let me say finally what you all have done and continue to do is wonderful

Welcome, great first post! I believe Red will have a Left Handed Accessory, but don't know for sure. We might know more Dec.3. Enjoy the Red party! :)

I second this. I have some problems with my right wrist (snowboarding accident, never healed right) and it really bothers me when i have weight on it. So a left hand control module would be absolutely wonderful. Doesn't seem like it would involve much more work on RED's part. It's really just flipping the components upside down.

Too bad Avid is going the way of SGI.

Too bad Avid is going the way of SGI.

Not likely...SGI sunk because they were slow to adapt the thread from Intel and AMD...Avid in the last few year been trying reorganize there products. Two year ago a full blown MC (Media Composer)would cost you at least 80-100k..now you can it for $250.00 with student ID..3K without. I love both Avid and FCP...but i don't see FCP taking over Avid anytime soon.

I remember in the early 90's people were talking about the death one of the most important company in our business even Avid switch over to the other side.....but Apple came back with a bang..don't forget Avid start out as a Apple apps.

peace:glare:

No offense Dara, but that is because you are looking in the rear-view mirror. If You look straight ahead, you may still catch some dust FCP left behind... :red_bandana:

Peter, are you saying FCP is way ahead of Avid now? I have always been an avid user, but am considering switching over to FCP cuz of what you get for the price, plus I may finally make the switch from PC to MAC, as I am beginning to see why some many love their MACs. Currently taking FCP classes to compare the pros and cons and to see if it's worth the switch. If anything, it seems it'll make workflow on Red footage at lot more fluid.
