  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- Scarlet Upgrade Program

If the Scarlet is going to be eligible for the Dragon upgrade and you will be getting Scarlet's back is it possible that you could be selling Battle Tested Scarlets at a lower price point?

Seems extremely likely that scarlets traded in for epic-x/dragon will be eventually refurbished and sold as battle tested. Seems like the only way RED could justify offering trade-ins and still stay profitable...

One of the guys answering questions at the NAB Dragon upgrade window told me that there was no way they could sell used cameras. But things could change.

When they offered BT Scarlets, they were new cameras that had only been used on one shoot. I doubt they'll take cameras that have been used an unknown amount of times in unknown scenarios, and sell them as BT cameras.

If they do refurbish and resell them, it will be something RED has never done.

Unless the recent BT Red One's were refurbed... Not sure.

The 4000 USD BT RED ONEs were exactly that ! The Stage III R1-> EPIC X trade ins, refutbished with side SSD, new warantee and new serial number.

As Trevor said, as soon as we have an update, we will post here. A watched pot never boils :)

Trust me, we are working on all the behind-the-scenes stuff that makes an upgrade program successful. Stuff like import/export intricacies, resource allocations, process flows, database coding, internal training, etc - it all takes a lot of time. Fortunately, we have practice in this before so all that prep is accelerated. But has to be done nonetheless...

I wonder if this is why other companies make you just buy a new camera instead of offering upgrade programs? (cough, cough)

Thank you for keeping us in the loop. Looking forward for the update.

I'm sure most everyone here is happy with the upgrade/trade-in program. We're just looking to stay in the loop as much as possible. Thanks for the info!

I would be asking "Are we there yet?" right alongside you guys if I was in your shoes : )

Take your time, so I've more time to safe some money :D

All of your guess-work is cracking me up guys. How about you let RED do what they do best...

What Red does best:

1. Have unique vision which turns into great cameras

2. Offer outrageously cool upgrade schemes for (1.)

3 Make us squirm waiting for (1.) and (2.)

4. Train us in the art of watchful patience. Took about a year for my Red One to show up. I should be better at this by now.

told this to my bomb squad she says camera serial number already executed

Kemalettin:

That's the opposite of what my bomb rep told me. He said that the only upgrade path I could not cancel out of is the Scarlet-X to Epic-X path. I can, however, change my mind about the Scarlet-X to Scarlet-D upgrade. I think it's best if you could speak to a supervisor as I'm sure they will gladly let you upgrade to an Epic-X instead of a Scarlet-D.

Thanks for your reply Marcos..
