  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lattice - A LUT Tool

Creating 3D luts from Lightroom presets... that sounds awesome! A video demo showing the interface, features and usage would be nice.

Not to hijack this thread, but could someone point me in the right direction to learn about 3D and 1D LUTs, especially as it relates to working with Red footage in Speedgrade or Resolve. I understand the basic premise of "Looks" and "Presets"... Are LUTs different? Can they be uploaded to an Epic? Sorry for the newbie question but this software looks cool but I'm lacking a foundational understanding of how LUTs fit into a color workflow. Feel free to send a PM if you know of a helpful tutorial.

Now back to the thread.

We are in the process of making screencasts with a few different use cases illustrated! Hopefully this will tide people over until we figure out if we are making a trial/demo.

Hi Greg,

I get an error message when trying to isolate colour. It says "colour couldn't be isolate because the contrast curve are not revisable". What do I wrong?

Regards!

Hans

Hans, there is an update pending approval on the App Store that will allow you to "Proceed Anyway" even though the curves aren't completely reversible. Basically if the contrast of the LUT is in such a way where it clips values, you can't perfectly isolate the color shift of the LUT. Depending on where it starts clipping, it could look from semi-acceptable to straight-up bad. In the update I included an option to "Go Ahead and do it anyway" even though it's not a perfect color isolation.

Huge Kudos, Greg.

With F55 and Amira gaining steam, LUTs are going to go mainstream.

With FCPX now having the ability to add transforms to incoming footage (and I think they do that using .ICC profiles), do you think there's:

1-as stated above, write out .ICC

2-Hack FCP into using user specified .ICC profiles

Just watched them all. Lightroom to Lattice is the winning formula... I'm sold.

Regarding the ICC profiles, I think the best way to handle applying LUTs in FCPX is through CGC's LUT Utility. Normally you would want to apply your LUT after any other color grading so doing a conversion or pre-processing on the source footage wouldn't be advantageous.

I would definitely pay a couple pennies for a "This to That" LUT builder. Let me feed the tool pairs of RGB values and then interpolate from the sample points. Think like spline warp but 3D. So you would hard define a handful of LUT transformations 0,0,0 -> 0.1,0.2,0.1 and then it would extrapolate the deformation. E.g. if you think linearly and you have an input [0],[0.5],[1] and you fed it a transformation of [0.1], [0.7],[0.9] the LUT builder would then interpolate 0.25 -> 0.4 etc. The existing functionality would be handy for people without Nuke but you could expand your reach quite a bit by offering more.
