  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st Scarlet....

36 minutes is exactly why I'm sticking with v-mount. Will probably pick up some volts for those times where going ultra light is more important than total uptime.

This is the reason I picked up v-mount. 36 minutes in L.A. would turn into about 15 for me in Colorado during winter months.

Just put a fully charged red volt into the Scarlet. In standby mode I got 36 minutes.

Fuck a duck... I once left my D3 switched on in my backpack all day by mistake... battery still showed fully charged... RED firmware guys, when you've finished all the more important features you better figure out some kind of power saving or sleep mode... turn off the LCD after so many second of inactivity, clock the processor back to tickover, whatever - have it ready to wake instantly on a button press, and get that number waaaay up. Like, hours in standby; obviously having to process a lot of data and run a big LCD it's going to eat power hugely faster than a D3 when it's actually shooting, that goes without saying.

Otherwise those of us doing the 'S' part of 'DSMC' are going to be in a whole new world of having to seriously watch our battery. Well, batteries.

36 Minutes in 'standby'... not to be a hater, but what's the point of using a battery that only lasts 36 minutes? What is an example of a use where it's acceptable to change bulky batteries every 36 minutes? I don't get it...

If it bothers you that much there is always the option of re-painting it...

Jeeze... Erik. I guess a guy can't post a personal opinion on here.

BTW, I don't think paint works too well on an anodized aluminum body.

Scarlet and Epic will get more power management capabilities down the road as squeeze more out of it.

There's a ton more going on inside Epic and Scarlet than a D3, hence more power needed.

Does it, really? 5K@12fps is 720 14mp frames per minute. D700 batteries last ~1500 shots. Scarlet need only last a minute and a half to beat that. I haven't tested D3 battery life but I'm guessing it's no more than double that.

However, the standby mode thing is a serious problem. I don't need the weeks that a D700 will last in standby, but I can't keep the camera off and endure a 10-second start-up every time I want to shoot a still.

I was hoping dSmc meant I could shoot it like DSLR. Sounds like it's gonna be more of a tethered-in-the-studio stills camera. But since it's way less clunky and way less expensive than medium format backs...I guess that's still pretty nice.

Tonaci , you must have special powers.:) patiently wait for more, I'm saving every image, my wife thinks I'm watching porn

LOL:-) playback is great! Nice to see.

and guys: give poor tonaci tran a break! he has relatives to entertain, films to shoot, batteries to load and all you can say is " footage" ???

ok he looks young and fit and can probably go on without food and sleep for 3 days but.....

DSMC means shoot motion with the ability to pull stills just as good as a DSLR.
Unlike a DSLR that shoots stills and video at vastly different quality.
