  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st Scarlet....

Sigh... yes, a little too retro for me. I would much prefer that it match my EPIC and every other camera accessory on the planet... including RED's! Black is bad. Gray? Meh.

My 2 cents anyway. I still have one on order... but wish they offered a black option. Kinda like Henry Ford. You can order any color you like as long as it is black. Only in this case, it's gray.

If it bothers you that much there is always the option of re-painting it...

And void the warranty? Jarred, where does Red stand on paint jobs?

I understand the desire to have two distinct camera bodies with different colors... but Mark has a point. I would love to send mine to DuAll Camera for a slick, professional old school Bolex-black finish.

The only color I care about as far as scarlet is concerned, is 4:4:4.

Update - I ended up shooting really late into the night so didn't have a chance to upload anything. I shot with the Red Scarlet all last night and love it.
Menu system is pretty much identical to the Epic.
I have to do my final morning pickup shots for the film I am working on and then I'll upload Scarlet r3ds around noon time. Sorry for the wait! It's been a busy last couple of days.

I recently saw some Phillip Bloom mini docs shot on Epic which has inspired me. In a few days, I am taking a short trip to Vietnam. While I am there, I am going to the countryside to do a mini-doc shot on Scarlet.

This afternoon, I will post a bunch of menu settings and will try to answer the questions I have been receiving via pms and email.
I can do some battery life comparisons vs the Epic and other stuff you all may be curious about.
and of course foootage! I want to give you some cool shots to look at and r3ds to play with.. =)

be back soon!

that's really great. Thanx!
was there a user manual (cd or paper)? if it is a pdf, do you think you might upload it somewhere?

Looking forward to seeing some footage from you Tonaci. Thanks in advance for the efforts.

Thanks Tocani! From the event on you've been awesome in keeping us posted, updated and learning. I look forward to some .r3d's to keep me busy until Dec 1.

Tonaci do I get to play with it ? Seeing that you pulled the trigger on my computer...ji
Ust playing congrats brother it means I can't be too far behind as I pulled the trigger 2sec later...

"Batterylife" comparison will be very interesting!

I think I'd rather have grey. When shooting in sunny and hot conditions I'd be afraid the excess energy / temperature absorbed by the black would overheat the camera. Does this make any sense?

This is why Canon L-Series telephoto lenses are white. Acording to Canon it reduces the heat buildup from direct sunlight that can adversely effect the optics.

Congrats Tonaci

Looking forward to some r3d's
Would be great if you could share us some that include Audio.

Congrats!

Congrats!

Congrats Tonaci! I don't post much but I've watched you all over the internet following the RED Revolution. Thanks for all the info and insight. You being the first is truly deserved and very cool!

If you're the first person with the camera, aren't you "obligated" to post lots of pics and sample footage for all of us on the Internets?
