  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Inexpensive gadgets and accessories you can't do without.

This is NOT $3000, I swear! Once I tired these, I was hooked! But you need to buy them all the time, or buy them in bulk! Still under $6 per unit! For the Bomb EVF we use the "2010 Extra small round."

There's a guy on either reduser, cinematography.com, or maybe on CML who posted a thread about a cheap alternative to filter tags (but they were literally just the same thing) an AC buddy of mine ordered them, and they're super nice. I'll look around for it, and post it... If anyone knows the website / link or forum, feel free to post it in! I kind of want to add that to my kit.
I got inspired by this article I saw over on the Black and Blue, but I think mine are easier to make and look better. http://www.theblackandblue.com/2010/08/06/toolkit-diy-filter-tags-and-other-labels/
Basically stick DYMO labels on one side of velcro, then you can stick them to the other half of the velcro on the matte box. Easy to see filter type and order. I keep the unused ones on the bottom of the shade.

Ankle weights are great for wrapping around smaller light stands or attaching to a jib for micro adjustments. Best of all, the smaller weights inside can also be removed for more precision. Plus you can tell your wife you're working out too.

This one takes a bit of 'splaining, but this item is cheap and super helpful. Take an elastic hair band and tie it off to the handle on your tripod head. Then, when you're doing pans, you pull on the band instead of the handle. The band "loads up" so you get a nice gradual start to the move, then at the end it comes to a silky smooth stop. With a little practice, I've learned to use this technique on not only pans but to follow on screen action. You can do this with any rubber band, but the band I linked is the one I found that works the best, lasts forever and looks legit.

Anyone knows where I can get an illuminating bubble level, on my tripod head it's not illuminating. I find myself so many times needing that. Thanks in advance!

I used to have a little £2 hotsoe one for my DLSR on slider setups off ebay, if that helps. Or I think you can get super cheap adhesive ones

Another tip is to do the same for dolly moves. A big fisher dolly and then have both dp and ac on it so it's weighted down and then pull it all in the rubber band... makes perfect smooth start stops on macro moves etc.

DIY China Ball:

1. China Ball light base: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Photo-Video...392?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5af3b389f8
2. Flo light bulbs: http://www.buylighting.com/200-Watt-Compact-Fluorescent-5000K-Full-Spectrum-p/fe-iiib-200w-50k.htm
This 200 W flo will output to 600 W incandescent, that's like a 2.4K China Ball that you can plug into a 110 outlet-now that's cool Or Home Depot sells the 85W flo for about ten bucks, that outputs to 300 W incandescent, that's a 1.2K China Ball
