  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Inexpensive gadgets and accessories you can't do without.

It may not be all that 'inexpensive' but someone said if it were life changing... I have to tell ya... I fell in LOVE with these carts! I have three other brands, and now I don't use any of those! The Inovativ replaced them all! This is THE best cart I've ever used! Worth every penny! Makes our daily grind SO MUCH EASIER! The 'hand brake' alone is worth it! The wheels! How smooth it is! It's EFFORTLESS to push around! The build quality! Patrick Blewitt and Company really knocked it out of park!

Yeah, I love it. Basically take the Epic coin off a hat, glue it on the hand strap, then press it flat under a sandbag for a few hours while it dries. I used Shoe Goo and it's held great for 2 years now….

I was hoping I didn't have to rip the coin off my hat. Thanks for the tip…. love this thread!

Cardboard is a life saver!!!! I have a stockpile for emergencies!!

A cheap way to carry your 4 foot Kinos and ballast is to use a travel golf bag.

That's great! How many does the bag fit? The big gaffer case mine came in is a little big when transporting.

That looks a genius idea. If I can fit a slider in there too I would be so happy.

So far I've been using drum stand cases but they fall apart after a few months.

Clapper slates always come in handy. Instead of carrying the larger ones, I go for the smaller ones, more portable.

Or, if you're feeling "cyber-techy" you can get yourself the iPad version.

While we're on the topic of great apps, here's another one I use constantly:

(time to put those iTunes gift cards to use)

This thread may be full of small, cheap items, but it sure is costing me a lot to read.

Here's something I use a lot, too, especially when the camera is being used with an outrigger and strap on the handle, fig-rig style. It's a hot-shoe spirit level.

It goes in the WC hotshoe that I posted earlier in the thread. I bought a big batch of them cos they can be lost/mislaid easily.

The clear pencil pouch! Literally $2-$3, and once I integrated this system into my workflow, it cut my time in half when other ACs wouldn't put stuff back where they found it. They're great for keeping cables safe, labeled, and kept together. I color coded mine, and labeled each one with it's contents, so at the end of the day (especially on insane shoots) I'm able to do quick dummy checks just by looking at the bag itself. If I hadn't had this system, I know a few pieces of AKS gear would've walked off....

So here's the catch: Dinkum is actually just using parts from another company called LOCKLINE, you can build these puppies yourself for like half of the price. I did a job awhile back with a guy who was seriously captain lock line and had some of the craziest (and coolest) contraptions. They're legos and super cheap.

These little guys (in my opinion) are the best $40 I've ever spent, I bought one and it blew my mind at how bright it is. I ended up buying three more, and use them for everything whether it be little book lights, or throwing it up on a noga for a catch light... they have a decent throw, and blew the crap out of the $200 litepanels of the same size in regards to throw... BUT, they have that Chinese feel to them, which is why I have extras, then again, a lot of the LED panels out there have a cheap feel to them anyway... The bottom part with the 1/4 thread will go out pretty quick if you don't rig something up, I gorilla glued a small 4" cheeseplate/bracket with a 1/4x20 thread in it, so I don't have to worry about fiddling around with the cheap plastic bracket... Add it to your dinkum / lockline and knock yourself out!! woop!

Someone already posted it, but... The golf bags are epic. I use one for my G/E goodies on light corporate type local gigs. Totally awesome.

There's a guy on either reduser, cinematography.com, or maybe on CML who posted a thread about a cheap alternative to filter tags (but they were literally just the same thing) an AC buddy of mine ordered them, and they're super nice. I'll look around for it, and post it... If anyone knows the website / link or forum, feel free to post it in! I kind of want to add that to my kit.
