These little guys (in my opinion) are the best $40 I've ever spent, I bought one and it blew my mind at how bright it is. I ended up buying three more, and use them for everything whether it be little book lights, or throwing it up on a noga for a catch light... they have a decent throw, and blew the crap out of the $200 litepanels of the same size in regards to throw... BUT, they have that Chinese feel to them, which is why I have extras, then again, a lot of the LED panels out there have a cheap feel to them anyway... The bottom part with the 1/4 thread will go out pretty quick if you don't rig something up, I gorilla glued a small 4" cheeseplate/bracket with a 1/4x20 thread in it, so I don't have to worry about fiddling around with the cheap plastic bracket... Add it to your dinkum / lockline and knock yourself out!! woop!

I second these, the reviews are terrible but I've cared for mine and they've lasted for over a year and counting. These are perfect for tossing some light during last looks and light weight enough for any rigging including a friction arm. Also make a great work light for outdoor night shooting.

DIY China Ball:

1. China Ball light base: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Photo-Video...392?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5af3b389f8
2. Flo light bulbs: http://www.buylighting.com/200-Watt-Compact-Fluorescent-5000K-Full-Spectrum-p/fe-iiib-200w-50k.htm
This 200 W flo will output to 600 W incandescent, that's like a 2.4K China Ball that you can plug into a 110 outlet-now that's cool Or Home Depot sells the 85W flo for about ten bucks, that outputs to 300 W incandescent, that's a 1.2K China Ball

Nice one Frank!

I am not sure if this would be useful for the RED, but if you have other cameras you may find if very useful :)

Please go here http://fotosafariproducts.com/ and check out how you can use this simple but clever shooting platform. It was designed by a RNG film crew in USA and they're using it all the time. The combinations they show, is just a few what you can do with it and am sure you can think of other gear to attach, like HD, Audio, Etc. Note specifically the large LCD on top of the platform and the camera mounted on the bottom. Excellent CG and balance. You can actually hold the entire platform with two fingers as you see it, it's that good. FSP have a model for the BMCC and BMPC for long lenses and so on. Attach the entire platform on a tripod and now you can use two handles to make those pans and follow the action shots with precision.

You sure did wait a long time for your first post.

hehe

EDIT: You've now blown my tiny mind with those right-angle connectors.

Here's a link to one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...T_BNC_RA_ADAPTOR_BNC_Right_Angle_Adaptor.html

If I had to make a list of all of the things that I disliked about a Red camera, it would be a short list, but by far the top item would be that damn countersunk SDI connection. Don't get me wrong, I like that the SDI connector doesn't stick out, but the least they could do is chamfer the edge or make the hole a little wider. I don't have huge gorilla hands and consider myself pretty dexterous, but I HATE plugging in and out of the blasted thing.

But, connect one of these right angle adapters prior to putting on your battery plate, and it makes it SO much easier to connect and disconnect throughout the day. I keep a couple in my camera case at all times.

BNC Extraction tools are great for SDI connectors. e.g. http://www.newark.com/paladin-tools...dywDsFoj|pcrid|33869889261|plid|&CMP=KNC-GPLA

Binder clips. So much better then c47's. Can't light without them.

1 a ball point pen... if the red one control knob breaks off you can disassemble the pen into a device that can control the camera from where the little joy stick thingy breaks off. I have seriously seen this done before! if you still shoot red one, just trust me, it can save you!

2 all the camera and redcine builds that you can score on a drive to reload camera or redcine to any version without internet ANYWHERE. this is great to actually embrace and keep on you on gigs. hell two copies of everything in your kit just to cover yourself, its not a lot of data, be honest

3 spare drives, cables, mag, battery, even brain/rocket if you can afford it.. last items being the most expensive... but everything before that is easily done for cheap and can potentially save you and is worth doing...

A few weeks ago I went looking for a flashlight to keep in my pocket and found this. It puts out 150 lumens for 8 minutes. It's pretty hard to justify not carrying a flashlight in your pocket with the existence of this thing. Up until the new year they were having a sale and the price with tax and shipping was under $50.
