  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new external RED ROCKET option ?

Theoretically it could handle a 2 Rocket implementation in the two x8 slots. Hopefully x4 slot could support a 4 port eSATA HBA that would provide an eSATA tap for the Red Station and transit drives.

With the recent release of the BlackMagic box that uses Thunderbolt and what I expect will be a plethora of TB RAIDs by years end, this has the potential to make it possible to run a full blown setup off a MB Air. Did Moore foresee that?!?

Magma says in their press release that they are working with RED, AJA and others. Hopefully this comes in soon and at a decent price. The 27" iMac is starting to look pretty good as a DIT station.

Using both channels, a Thunderbolt port is roughly equivalent to a PCIe v2.0 X4 slot, which is also equivalent to a PCIe v1.x X8 slot. So if you want to maximize your Rocket, it will saturate that TB port. The Magma box only has one slot inside that is an X16 electrical slot, which the Rocket needs to supply its power requirements. So, it's not all that realistic to put more than one Rocket in this enclosure. You should definitely be able to install other cards in there along with a Rocket, but you will be heading to bottleneck city if you try to use them all at the same time for anything serious.

As long as I can put a Red Rocket and a SATA_USB3.0 card to hook up two drives and a 1.8'' Mag Reader then groovy. Not sure how we'll that will work out.

Wow.
