  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So I'm really missing my side handle Redvolt. I used that for hot swapping pretty much every shoot. Anything on the horizon to fill that void?

Other than the Revolt expander...

I think Offhollywood will be coming out with a DSMC2 battery mount with a built-in battery for hot-swap. Probably at least a few more months away... Hoping to hear details soon.

If you got a d tap to 4 pin lemo cable you can swap without having any weight left on camera, no?

Exactly, its actually a great solution, quick, works well, and no extra weight.

As long as your using a cable-less battery module

Hey Jerek, also using the Switronix Jetpack-X. It just fits on the camera a little funny while using Base Expander and Quick Back. I'd wait for the new Movcam system. There's a top plate with some decent video expansion that plugs into the d-tap of a hot swap unit that sits between the camera body and a v-lock module. Read they almost had it ready and were showing it off at NAB.

Still would really like one of the wooden camera quick plates filled with a battery that could stick between a module or a v-mount plate. Super thin and would allow for 30 seconds of hot swap or something like that (though with a lipo you might get quite a bit more time. Either that, or would it be possible to put a capacitor onto a d-tap plug that could provide power for 10 seconds or so?

Agreed. Though 30 seconds is pushing it. 3 Min would be ideal. You'd want time to get a battery if your's runs out and you gotta go grab one from the set somewhere.

All these solutions are great, but they are kinda big. I'd like something simple and small. I might as well just have another cabled plate on the cam with a smaller battery.

A little bird from Switronix said they were working on a cableless version of the Jetpack X. Currently I use the jetpack as well and have it mounted on the back of the clutch for weight distro.

These battery plates are not a real hot swap. They drain batteries in parallel. You can swap low voltage batteries one at a time, but if you are not watching their voltage they could both die on you.

Yep, you still need to watch out for voltage, but looks like a lot of people are just looking for something that does the job. I really like that solid camera unit you posted above though ;)
