  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Focus....

Remember... this is a DSMC (Digital Stills and Motion Camera). :-)

Jim

Does this mean it will work during motion as well? I am very confused about this issue, that's why I am going for the Scarlet Fixed in the first place....because I still think it is the only way to have autofocus (for certain situations I am sure I will need it), and that Canon lenses (or other brands) will just do auto focus on Still Mode. I am the only one that has this idea?

Or to cut the question short, will this Canon lens be able to use the auto focus during Motion capture?

From the small LCD, I'd assume this is the Scarlet 8x Kit...

Right?

:hurray:

I'm excited about this touchscreen af stuff. I'm hoping it works as good as I imagine it in my head.

I also have to say this is my favorite quote of the month.
"If you use the touchscreen AF, you won't give a shit about markings... :-)"

Can't wait to see it!

JARRED! YOU JUST MADE MY WEEK!!!!!!!

Will the Canon mount be available out the door with Epic???? I soooo want one...

Mmmm, tasty L primes

That's good to hear that the cable won't get in the way of the follow focus. But when changing lenses it looks like I'm going to be hitting that cable all the time with my hand. It's sticking out right next to the lens locking ring.

It's going to be hard enough to unlock and change lenses without having one of those levers on the ring, now you guys are putting a cable connector in the way too?!? You don't people who work in cold weather with gloves on do you?

On a Canon?

But it seems that the focus is racking from about 1.3m to about 2.25m and then goes straight back to 1.7m.

Is that a pre-programmed focus ramp? Really fast.

Hey Martin, help me out here:

Thanks

Enrique, there's no fundamental problem here. Many of us who have the Birger mount and Impero controller already focus manually EF-lenses "on fly" moving objects with the Impero. AF just means instead the cameraman there is a feedback to the camera processor which controls the lens motor.

My doubt arises from the fact that (correct me here if I am wrong) still lenses have a different approach to keeping a subject in focus as it moves than motion (regular video lenses) where the lens is programmed (or has different type of motors) to softly accomodate the focus as a subject, for example, approaches you.

I am not familiar with the Birger or Impero mounts.

Essentially my question is: if I get a Scarlet body (not fixed) and stick in a Canon lens (I understand the crop factor issues), will it work as smoothly as a Scarlet Fixed 8x when in Auto Focus Mode?

That is my understanding — except that on a handycam you can only use the autofocus to set the initial focal point (unless you like the focus pumping feature of modern handycams.)
