  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Focus....

Some wrong info here sorry guys... Nikon software and firmware will not be done when Epic-X starts shipping.. I dont want you guys to have false expectations.

Apologies for any confusion.

Ouch. Any more info on what this means? I can wait for automatic functions but am hoping I can still operate focus and iris on Nikkor AF-S lenses with the Redmote. What are the chances?

Sorry Bill for the confusion.

The Nikon and Canon mounts are not shipping yet and likely will not be until after NAB. First functionality will be Iris control, Manual Focus control with lenses that have internal motor will follow. We are still tuning the Autofocus algorithms, as you know we have some pretty kick ass tracking features but they take time to implement correctly.

Jarred, even though it's not the info we want to hear, it's still good to hear it.

Thanks.

This helps reset future plans.

Does this mean those of us rocking with SLR glass will have to acquire PL mount lenses if we want to use our Epics in the short to medium term?

Thanks for the response, Jarred. I'll be early-Stage 3, so waiting until after NAB for the Nikkor mount is probably not a problem for me anyway. Hopefully, the Nikkor mount with manual-iris and manual-focus functionality will be ready by the time my number comes up.

So to clarify, The Canon mounts are functional now but the Nikon ones aren't yet? Or are the Canon algorithms getting fine tuned as well? Will the Canon mounts ship sooner that the Nikon? Or is your plan to release them together?

I always planned to order the Canon mount. So I guess I'm just wondering how the Nikon mount affects the Canon mount develpment/production... if it does at all.

Thanks for the heads up on this!

I understand you have engineering details, particular to each mount, and autofocus parameters, applicable to all lenses, still in development.

But is there any reason to hold back shipping of the physical mount itself? So that we can use it as a dumb mount, with full manual lens control, until such time as electronic control is made available in a firmware update? Or is there still engineering effort required on the electronic hardware built in to the mount itself, which would preclude that? (I obviously have no idea how much intelligence is built into the mount vs. the brain).

A totally dumb Nikon mount would be a hell of a lot more use to me than no Nikon mount at all. Give us the mount with the first EPIC-X shipments, if at all possible, even if nothing except the lens release button works!
