  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Focus....

Thanks for your love and time dedicate to Europe. Means a lot.

All this looks very promising. To which extent you think it will be possible to follow the focus on something like a flying bird?

i think that will strongly depend on your finger on the focus tracking on the touch screen....

Here's to hoping we can get "focus tracks", where you mark off a specific spot (like a subject's necklace) and the camera will keep focus on that object as long as it is visible. Just like motion tracking works in many post tools.

That would be incredible...

But how much can one wish for?

Something like this will come, eventually, but this fall already?
(dreaming on...)

The R-1 forced me to learn to shoot manually. And I think I'm better for it. It looks like an easy transition to touchscreen focus now though, and I think it will make it easier for new users of the Scarlet and Epic to get the focus right. Problem is, once you get used to it, how will you ever be satisfied with using anything else?

Of all things to compare this to is the ad for the Ford Focus. Their tag line is "This is a pretty big deal."

Very Small Point..

Very Small Point..

I've noticed that the Plugs for the LCD / EVF cables have gone back to pointing forward (towards the matteboxes!). Has this changed again, or will there will be a choice as to picking one that points forwards, or towards the operator?

Thanks in advance!
Jay

for now.. they are going forward. Too many people called the "1-800-I-Hate-Backwards-ports" number. :)

That close focus is pretty amazing for the Scarlet 8X (especially if you can zoom in all the way at the distance suggested in that photo (1.5 feet??)) - a quick 'back-of-a-fag-packet' calculation suggests the field of view would be as little as just a couple of inches!!

Scarlet S35

Scarlet S35

Oh yey :) this makes me pretty happy - now the day when I see an Scarlet S35 prototype on here can´t be that far away.

As for the autofocus - will there be user configurable Easing Curves saved in presets or you just supply a hard in/out and one thats just a normal "ease ease" sin function? If they are user configurable are you able to "draw" them on the preview screen - bezier curves? or numbers?

Well done Red team. I've been excited for the touch focus since before Vegas. We should coin a new crew term and call that person a "focus toucher" lol! Thanks for all you guys do.

Godspeed.

Congratulations guys. And thanks so much for staying up most of the night for those of us in different time zones.

I've been banging on about these kinds of focus options for ages now. I just knew you guys would be the ones to pull that particular rabbit out of the hat. Matter of fact, I think you have an entire family of bunnies in there.
